My wife just walked in with the mail. She had the ******* their Spring Sale CE Magazine.
Guess what was gracing the cover?

And guess what they were promoting.

Are you certain that this is the "MSRP" or simply a price?

I checked and the current selling price at ******* is $374, so $399 would in fact be more than what they are currently selling it for.

It is the new MSRPs.

I've seen confirming information weeks ago.

Didn't remember the effective date though.

I do not think that there is minimum advertised price restriction in place either.

Good news for 2nd quarter HD DVD sales.

It should put the street price of the A2 under 300.

Nice. DL.TV says that Walmart will be selling HD DVD players as well 'soon'.

$399 MSRP could translate into an average selling price of less than $349.99. Man I'm kind of glad I was forced to wait a bit. I think I'm going to pick up an A2 and then wait for the next Xbox 360 update before I grab one of those. Either way I'm ahead of the game.

Frank,

What is your point. They arent going to change the price on the website until the price goes into effect on April 1.

I wonder how this will effect HD DVD standalone player prices in Europe? The PS3 is set to launch what next week? I think Toshiba has all of a sudden become much more "aggressive."

I might need to pick up a hd dvd player soon. Do we get to choose which 5 movies we get or is it the ones on the picture?

oohhh oohhh sony is announcing a new price very soon .. BDP300 at $499

a week later Toshiba will announce $699, $399 and $299 . Toshiba is laughing its way to the bank to deposit the profit from selling the players at that prices .. while Sony crying to the bank in the hope of securing more loan to subsidise the new player and the PS3

One can only speculate about the MSRP of the Venturer and other inexpensive Chinese players. And the street prices for the Chinese players? This is quite a show that Toshiba is putting on. I wonder which price point Onkyo intends to come in on. As Toshiba increases production in China of its own players, we may expect even lower prices by the holiday season.

This is all starting to smell like a well thought through counter punch to Sony's excellent Q1, and even if this was the plan all along, its nice to see...

Great news! The closer we get to J6P's budget to spend on a machine, the closer we get to fending off blu-ray and getting neutrality.

Bought mine 430.00 brand new with BB after using 12% and 4 free hd-dvd they offered at that time plus 5 free hd dvd from toshiba, still a decent deal considering
I am enjoying it now with my hd1000u. But you are right for waiting the price to go down good decision.

And here comes the $300 street price for an A2 by the time Sony releases their $599 MSRP BDP-S300...

Exactly like I stated in another thread, the $300 price of entry will come from Toshiba, not the Chinese players. These will come in at a Walmart friendly $199 MSRP.
