As for the SW update. How do you think the TV is going to get the software, over the air? You have to download it to a flash drive. Currently there is no software update posted for the 61 series TVs at Samsung (I just checked). Get a DVE disc or pre-order the Blu-ray version from amazon, go throught the calibration, and see if anything helps. |

i have the 4061f. When watching hd channels on my comcast box the picture is incredible. But when i watch a blu ray movie using my ps3 the picture isn't even close to the quality i saw on display at best buy. it's not even better that the picture i get from cable. i am using the default "dynamic" setting w/HDMI cable. Does anyone have any recommended settings for the 4061 with the ps3?
thanks |

If you're in a dimmly lit area don't use dynamic, but that shouldn't make your picture look worse than the Cable. If you have the PS3 and cable connected to two different TV inputs (instead of plugging them into an HDMI capable receiver and sending one cable to the TV) just go through the options on the cable box input, write them down on paper, and then go to the other input and make sure they match exactly. Make sure you look at the detailed settings under picture and the settings menu. |

I've had a LNT4665f for a few months now, but just got around to getting an HD cable box from time warner. I have this weird problem and I don't know if its the tv, the box, or the signal. when watching the HD channels when a SD commercial comes on the picture will blink between the video and a black screen sometimes. It doesn't do this every time or for the same channel, and watching SD video through the SD channels is fine. Anyone know whats up with my set? oh the box is a scientific atlanta explorer 3100HD and I have it going to the set with component cables.

Maybe the BR player has a problem? Maybe try a few different movies.

Standard (with DNIe ON) Contrast 65 or 68 Brighness 52 or 53 Gamma +3 Color Space AUTO (Wide color adds more grain to backrounds, trust me) Backlight 0,1,2,or3 (I personally use 0 or 1 for Blu-ray) Black Adjust OFF Dynamic Contrast LOW I use my PS3 and I have Y/Pb/Pr/Cb output so HDMI balck level is grayed out. That should be your last step if its not grayed out. Try these settings, you will be amazed at how much it reduces grain. I just watched 30 days of night on blu ray and it looked so sterile it was crazy.

thats not the box i have hooked up. i do have that box in my bedroom. i was actually getting ready to replace my older box for that one. i guess i should test out the one in my room on the samsung before i do. I'll let you know how it turns out.
cginex : i'm having the same issue with my blue ray. The picture isn't horrible but i just can't seem to get it right. It's either too dark, too light, or too grainy. as of now on my 4061 my settings are: Standard Cont - 90 Bright - 40 sharp - 20 Color - 50 Tint - 50 Backlght - 9 ColorTone - Normal Size - Just Scan Dig NR - Auto DNIe - On Detailed Settings Black Adj - off Dyn Cont - low Gamma - -1 Color Space - Auto Edge Enhance - on These settings are ok, the darks are nice. i would like a little more pop on the colors but the picture gets too grainy when i try to brighten any setting up. If i can get the picture to look as good as the sony blu ray display in best buy i think i'll crap my pants. Also, i think the fact that i spent all of this money and still have to deal with the black bars is bumming me out. Will there ever be conformity in the movie/tv industry? |

mercem, this is a very strange problem. Sure I'm not totally excited about the 61, but it shouldn't look that bad not comparred to Vizios, Toshibas, LG, Sharp, or other crap that you could buy.
You are NOT using the movie "300" to check picture quality, right? Try connecting to the PSN (playstation network) and download a 1080p movie trailer. This will tell you if its your TV or a broken laser on the PS3. Your settings look good, almsot exactly what I have (my backlight is at 4 and I set neutral collor, but that's the biggest difference from your list). Is game mode and DNIe on or off? |

If you have the PS3 have you messed around with the xvYCC setting? I was thinking if i enable that setting on both the tv and the ps3 and lower the contrast and backlight i might get a little better of a picture. |

Has anybody measured the color space on one of the more recently manufactured sets, say September or November forward? Perhaps a CIE chart with measured against NTSC?
Wondering how good the color space is since Samsung started using an 8 bit panel with presumably 72% of NTSC instead of the original 10 bit and 92% panel... |

Has anyone with a Cortez processor found picture settings that they're satisfied with? Every set of settings I've found so far are from people with the Trident processor, and I haven't really been able to dial in decent picture settings for this TV yet.
So, If anyone could post their picture settings with an LNT4665f with a Cortez processor, I'd appreciate it. Thanks! |

I had super white on and then I turned it off. I have recently noticed more Banding (see my previous posts) and I'm starting to think this was the problem. I'll go turn it back on and make sure that BD/DVD output is set to Y/Cr/etc. |

heres a question. why on my 4661f when i set standard and movie to the exact same settings do they look different? i can set contrastm brightness etc all to the same settings, even the detailed settings will be the same (black adjustment, etc) to same and yet they look different. any explanation. personally i think the standard looks more grey and washed out but yet movie although looks blacker and more true looks too dark. i need to turn my backlight up to 6 7 or 8 for my house. is this weird? anyone else use backlight this high #1 and #2 why do they look different when set at same settings? thanks fgor the help.

i found this on samsung in troubleshooting. does this make sense to anyone? anyone done this? does it work?
Resolution Settings All HD cable and satellite boxes have resolution settings you can set to optimize the picture of your TV. This TV works best when it receives a 720p signal. To get the highest quality picture, set the box to output at 720p. If you do not know how to set the resolution, call your cable or satellite provider. I personlly have my comcast box on 1080i (obviously there is no 1080i) so i thought 1080i would have been better than 720p, am i wrong?

I'm curious about this too. I have RCN, Motorola 3416 box. Just checked CNET, and the majority of HD channels are output in 1080i, though there are some that are 720p: http://www.cnet.com/4520-7874_1-5119938-1.html I have my cable box set to 1080i output - can't set it differently for different channels as far as I can tell. Would 720p be better? For 1080i content, it seems that setting it to 720p will result in the image being processed twice - from 1080i to 720p by the cable box, then from 720p to 1080p by the TV. Would this be better than 1080i content being sent to the TV then processed once to 1080p? A second related question: I keep seeing people recommend RGB output rather than yppc output. Does this mean it is better to use component output than hdmi output?

which settings should i use?
i have a 4661f. bought in may 2007. original board = 1016/1004. replaced few days ago because of recurring green flashes and dropouts. now 1037/1011. which calibration settings should i use? the ones in this bulletin board (i.e. post 1499) or on the 1007/1011 board? sorry if this question has been asked before but there are just too many posts.
