2007 Onkyo AVR (TX-NR905, TX-SR875,805,705,605,575,505) Anticipation Thread
I was reading up on the newly announced 575 and 505 by Onkyo Usa and decided to see if any others were availible/comeing soon. My results exceeded my expectations on what's going to be out this year. I saw listing on Amazon with MSRPs (As opposed to the discounted street prices they'll post sometimes (ex. the HD-A20 was listed as $599 MSRP with no discount since just after CES))
I happened across a german site that had compiled a full list of the 2007 series with detailed features. It looks like ALL the 2007 Line models are HDMI 1.3a!! (The 505 and 575 which are up on the Onkyo USA website already are Video Pass through only) 605 and up all have Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio Decode!!!! The top of the line Being the NR905>SR875>SR805>SR705>SR605>SR575>SR505. There's just a bit of info I don't have but I'm sure that will filter out soon. Here's the Official Press Releases by Onkyo for the 605: http://www.gspr.com/onkyo/txsr605.html As well as the Press release for the 705, 805, 875, 905: http://www.gspr.com/onkyo/thxavr07.html (Thanks for posting that Monger) MSRPs according to Amazon with Est. ship date of Mid May. The 905 sounds interesting to me.
- REON video processing. Since I've got a 720p projector, I wonder how it would work at downrezzing 1080i/1080p and then just spitting everything out at 720p? - DTS HD MA & Dolby True HD - I'm assuming at least 130 - 150 watts of power in here - Plus the wildcard for me is the 2 HDMI outputs. That would mean that I could leave everything in the AV closet and run the Blu-Ray, HD-DVD, PS3, XBox360, & Wii all in the AV closet and connect it to my computer room that's just outside my home theater. That would be perfect for playing games and watching supplementary features on the DVDs off the same equipment used in the theater. I doubt we'd ever need to have both going at the same time. I wonder if I could run the speakers through a switch and use multi-channel audio in the both rooms. Hmmm... this 905 has me very interested and I think it just jumped ahead of the new Denon's due to the inclusion of the Reon. |

*Component Video Upconversion and HDTV-Capable (50 MHZ) Video Switching (3 in 1 out)
Seems like THX are relaxing their standards. Used to be 100MHz minimum for component switching. Having Ultra2 on such low end models is maybe a sign that their milking the last remaining life from the certification. These units do look good for the money though. |

looks like I might have an answer to my rcvr problem before the Denons come out in late summer. I'm very happy w/ both of my current Onkyo rcvrs, and the 875 might be just right. woohoo! late may, huh? looks at watch. Taps foot on ground impatiently. |

I'm not in the market for a new receiver, but the 905 looks very promising. If implemented properly, the Reon video processor will be a godsend for many. Audyssey MultEQ XT is always a great addition. It seems as if the 905's build quality will be solid. I wonder what particular model of Burr Brown DACs Onkyo is using.

Hey, I'm a Troll ;)
|
New recievers have HDMI and some have upgraded Auto EQ.
Great. That's the expected step-up. I also see that Onkyo keeps adding in new models to slowly push their MSRP up. Does anyone else remember when teh Onkyo 90X series were $1500 and not $2000, oh yeah, last generation. Harman and Denon are all cranking up their models and MSRP's. Is this collusion or some sort of inflation effect?

Actually, the new generation are less expensive. Compare the features and specs of the 905 at $1999 to the 901 at $1500. The 875 has quite a leg up on the 901 for less money. In fact, the 804/DTR-7.7 are $200 less than the models that they replaced. Onkyo/Integra has had a large "hole" in the AVR product line for several years that we've been complaining about. They need a product for around $2-3k, as the next model up after $1000-$1200 has been $5k! Eric |
