46" Sceptre LCD coming Mid Q3 2007

From Sceptre Sales office:

Quote:
Yes, the information you received in the latest issue of Costco's Member Passport is correct. We recommend you purchase the 42" now. Sceptre will be releasing our 46" HD TV in the mid Q3 2007.

The module 46" is still in the production phase, weather or not it's a Komodo or Naga series has not been released at this time.

Best Regards

Again, thank you for purchasing Sceptre branded products.
Now....do I wait for the 46" or do I jump on the 42"?

Ive been wanting to know some info on this as well since the 42" vizio 1080p model will be out before that one is on sale with the coupon. 46" sounds nice though, but the vizio is rumored to have the 120hz refresh rate. I wonder how much the sceptre will be before the $300off coupon ?

8:000:1 Dynamic Contrast and 3 HDMI, even though it is listed as dual HDMI. There are 2 on the rear and 1 on the side.

Bummer... I'm trying to decide whether or not to return my 42" Sceptre and go for the 46. Time is running out!

I returned my 42" Sceptre last week before the 90 days return limit and waiting for the 46" 1080p. In the mean times I am using the 20 years old 17" CRT. Going from 42" HDTV to 17" CRT is suck big time.

8:000:1 is a dynamic contrast number which holds no real basis. Each manufacturer determines their own dynamic contrast which is a major marketing tool. Do not rely on that spec. The panel manufacturers state the true contrast ratios which are typically 1000 or 1200:!. If you can find out who manufacturers the panel and go their site, you will see the true contrast ratio. Sceptre is one of the few manufacturers that is very secretive about who manufactures their panels. Call them and ask, I'll bet they tell you NO!

On the 42" thread, someone posted a response from Sceptre CSR stating that even the 42" has a native CR of 1500. So I expect this one has a higher CR.

I called Sceptre today and I was told that this tv will be a Costco exclusive. Therefore Sceptre will not be giving out any information directly to consumers. All information will be provided to Costco and they will post the information as it is released.

Some infos are copied from X42GV-Komodo. Specially the Sizes and Power, width should be about 44" not 40.5" as X42GV42-Komodo.

on the sceptre website @ the lcdtv product section the response time is 6ms... hope this not a misprint... as the X42GV is 6ms & has the faroudja upscaler which is not listed also (or is it not needed on a full hd 1080p set) I am waiting for when the final price is actually listed & hope it does not have any "issues" w/ it b4 I pull the trigger

guys,

anyone knows what is the refresh rate is for this set. The PDF file does not discuss this.

is it 60HZ or is it 120 HZ. Since this TV will have an HDMI 1.3 V which is very good.

I guess you just have to wait until August 6 to see what the price would be and whether you would have to pay for the shipping for the unit. I doubt if you can purchase it from a local costco store unless you are in Kirkland.

Costco has a Magnovox 42" on sale now. Seems to have a better native resolution than the 46 sceptre.

Product.aspx?Prodid=11213783

As preveviously stated, who buys the sceptre 46" will have a lot to do with the final price.
I'd love the larger screen but am not really willing to throw an extra $400-500 for 4 diagonal inches.

46" has about 20% larger screen size then 42".

In general what is the difference between the Naga and the Komodo series? Is one generally better than the other?

Info is on Sceptre site -check it out!

I had been checking the Sceptre website a few times a week for the past month. I think this TV is better than the others Costco has especially if you want to use it as a computer monitor too (the ones they had on special so far won't display PC at 1920x1080).

They post a MSRP of $1,699, and call it 'X46GV-FullHD', and is in the Komodo line.

I'm 98% sure this is the one in the Costco passport.

Does anyone know if this TV has cable card slot? I looked at the specs but didn't see it mentioned unless it goes by another name.

Okay, just to clear up the confusion on the refresh rate and contrast ratio...I asked Sceptre and here's the reply email:

Dear Customer,
Thank you for contacting us. We have just recently posted the model page. This is a typo on the index page. The response time is 8ms, not 6ms. The dynamic contrast is 8000:1 and the static contrast is 2000:1. If you don't see a price on Costco yet, that means they have not finalized with one yet.

We apologize for your inconvenience. Thank you for your understanding.

Best Regards,
Sceptre Technical Support Group

only 8ms? my X42GV is 6ms! & has 2k CR (native/static... since no mention of dynamic in the specs) & also has the faroudja scaler... ( I know its a 720p/1080i set) but...I have been seeing a few new 1080p sets w/ just 8ms..looks as its the industry's standard for 07/ 08

Dang, I just found this TV

Think it'll be too much for a desk computer monitor?

I was using the 42" Vizio, but returned it because it looked like poo over DVI
