Official Insignia LCD Thread: NS-LCD32
i couldn't find any threads on Insignia's line of LCDs, so here it is.
i recently purchased my NS-LCD32 from Best Buy (obviously). ![]() i have not had time to make any adjustments. so far mounting it on the wall and hooking up the cable. still haven't even hooked a DVD player up to it. for the very low price i paid for it, $549 on sale - 12% off coupon = $485, i think it has more than adequate picture quality. if anyone has any adjustment tips, post em up! |

honestly i'm not sure. from what i have previously read, Insignia (among other brands) are made by Orion. however, i'm not sure if they have swapped production parts to another company.
i can tell you this unit is vastly improved in all aspects compared to the previous model...not sure on the model #, but the housing was all silver and much bulkier. the picture has significantly improved, as has the piano black cabinet finish. i think they also added one more HDMI input. (my parents have the older model in their bedroom so i make my comparisons off of that) |

I bought this a month ago for 699.99 however, within those 30 days I got a price match and got it for 549.99.
I can tell you I got told the same thing about this TV that in fact it had some LG to it. Not sure what to think about that since I'm not all up to date on flat screen technology. The TV has been excellent, HD content looks really nice, however I can say DirecTV standard def looks a bit rough, however, off air signal works really well and looks very nice when HD shows come and digital channels look great also. The other model was the NS-LCD32FS which I heard wasn't the greatest. So far this new model is great. 2 HDMI, 2 Component, 2 Composite, 1 S-Video, SPDIF, and Coax on it. The only thing I have an issue with is the slow response times of the controls from the remote and menu, feels a bit like their sticky (onscreen) Also the audio is not the greatest which is why I'm saving up for a surround sound system. |

i do think it makes a great bedroom TV. it does for us anyway. i could've bought two of these for the price of a higher quality unit. and unless there was a monster killer deal on a higher quality unit, i have no reason to spend that kinda money on a TV for my bedroom. we watched our first movie on it last night, but so far otherwise, it has only had the nightly news played on it. i don't need a $1400 TV to watch the news. we originally set out to buy a 26" TV b/c we were only looking to spend $600 at the most. when we got to the store, the 32" was on sale and cheaper than the 26" version of the same unit. the pros: really low price on sale really nice design for a lower quality unit plenty of connection options great PQ for the price the cons: lower PQ than a unit twice the price the response time is a bit slow for general remote use, but i didn't notice it until elprhs mentioned it basically, it has great PQ for a $550 TV. the PQ would not be considered as good if the price was in the $1000 range. as it is, only a hand full of years ago, you would easily spend that much on a nice 32" CRT unit and this is already a much better unit than any of those from back then. I must agree with you on all of that. I'm 100% sure that if I had Digital Cable rather then DirecTV I would be getting better PQ. My antenna which picks up the digital signals are amazingly good.
I don't have the cash for a HD-DVR yet, but I plan to soon, and I currently use the off air signal more then the SD signal lol. I do have the 360 with HD-DVD hooked to it and the movies look wonderful on it. As for the remote, I'm sorry I pointed it out. I just hate the lag of the menus and changing channels. I use the up/down left/right big buttons to switch channels to move faster through the channels, in case you didn't know, rather then using channel up and down and volume. Also, I may add a con. The audio settings are a bit strange, I find that 7 is to quiet and 8 gets to loud all of a sudden. Any tips if you see/hear the same thing. |

I'm considering getting this TV...its on sale at Best Buy right now. I'm debating between this Insignia and the Vizio VX32L. It will primarily be used for watching SDTV through DirecTv, OTA HD and playing Xbox 360 and Wii.
Those of you who own this TV, are you happy with it? Does it have any quirks I should know about? PQ is good? Overall quality good? I'm sorry about all the questions, I'm just not very familiar with the Insignia brand. Thanks for any advice |

when we bought ours, we also looked at the Vizio, and my wife and i both liked the Insignia picture much better. the Vizio was actually on sale cheaper than the Insignia, so the price was not the issue there. so far, we are only watching ours via SD cable. we do not have an HD cable box for the bedroom (where we're using ours) just yet. just looking at this TV at best buy with their settings and their HD signal, we were sold. we are very anxious to get this hooked up with HD cable.

For instance, what type of tuner does it have? NTSC, ATSC, QAM? Thanks for the response, I'm really having a tough time deciding |

Two weeks ago, I bought the 26" version of this TV... NS-LCD26. I debated back and forth on the extra $100 for the 6 more inches. I didn't think it would be important as this is a bedroom TV. However, a week after buying the 26" for $599, I noticed the 32" model was on sale for only $30 more, so I did the swap.
In general, this unit has a good PQ and I've had no audio problems. However, on BOTH units (the 26 and the 32) I have had "Component 2" input issues. I have a Charter HD Explorer 3250 cable box and a Phillips DVD player. Either of which, when attached to Component 2 generate bleeding red and green color stripes to the left of the picture pieces. This only occurs on Component 2 on any of the picture modes. I have also noticed that the picture does not appear to be centered on the unit. Titles for movies appear slightly to the right of center. If anyone has had the same problems and perhaps found a fix, please let me know via reply or email. I am also looking to see if there are any advanced setup menus for convergence and such. TIA |

Thanks TX. I have called Insignia tech support and they claim to not have any reports of this same issue. I guess I can live with it, since I will only be using Component 1 for my DVD player and the RF input in the bedroom.
By the way, this unit just went BACK on sale for $549.99 at Best Buy.. looks like I'll be stopping by there to get my Price Matching and $80 refunded. |

Just picked mine up today. So far I'm very pleased. Especially when I used the VGA input to connect my laptop to it so I could use it as a second monitor. I downloaded Powerstrip and used their 1366X768 LCD TV resolution. Nice and crisp. I haven't got an antenna hooked up yet, so I haven't been able to check out the hd picture. Standard def Directv doesn't look bad to me.

Ok, I got a little gripe. I just programmed the remote to control my satellite receiver, and to change the volume I have to hit the tv control button first, then hit the aux button to control the receiver again. I've always used the stb to control the tv before and it wasn't an issue. I wonder if I can program my old Sony receiver remote to control the tv?

Yeah. If this TV has any really massive faults, it's the whole area of the controller. It's very slow to react with the TV, and it doesn't allow for much. I have my remote with the DirecTV, Xbox, and sound system, plus TV of course, but the truth is I just deal with all the controls on an individual basis. So that means I have to deal with about 5 remotes lol, can get confusing when trying to switch source, change volume, rewind, or change the channel lol.

i set the 26" up for my buddy and his new xbox360. After going thru initial Xbox setup, i set the system to 720p. I made sure zoom mode was on Off/standard to get the full display. However, even with the Xbox in 720p mode and zoom off, it looks like a 4:3 picture with massive black bars on each side. once i set zoom mode to the first setting it looks mostly normal however i don't know if this is optimal or not.
Also the view angle (mostly veritcal) on this set is horrid, is this something that you guys experience with yours or you think is just with his particular set? He has it on a bookcase thats a bit higher than his gaming chair in his computer room. I would estimate about 30deg below. He loses a lot of detail from his perspective and we were goin to try to maybe tilt the tv down or have to get a new stand. he's pretty lazy so its probably the former. |

alucard_x, the Xbox 360 is a horrible player for DVD's. I highly suggest you get an external player because thats the fall back of the 360. Until Microsoft sends an update it's going to stay like that, I suspect that Fall 07 Update may fix this as more and more are getting upset about that, however, don't expect much from them.
As for the angle, I only start to lose detail 40-50 Degree angles and if you stand in front of it of course it won't look great, but then again you usually sit when watching TV. |

DO NOT buy any Insignia brand model without purchasing a service contract with it, Unless it's a very cheap set that you don't mind trash canning in a year or so if it breaks.
BBY is unable to supply parts for any of these Insignia's other than the few Orion models. Most of these sets are made by anyone from Funai to Konka to Orion to a couple other Chinese manufacturers. |

The rule of thumb with these type of sets is you work it hard for 3-5 days. If the set continues to work at optimal performance then it will work for a long time. However, if you break it within that, then it was bound to bust up on you.
Anyways, I got the service contract anyways, but I'm not worried about it breaking on since I've had it for 2 months now. |

alucard_x, what model of the xbox are you using, Core or Elite version? What type of connection are you using?
Also, this thread is for the 32in version, you placed 26in so not sure if you got it confused or not. Anyways, I'm using the component connection and have the 360 set to the 1080i. I think I know what your friends problem is because I made the same mistake. The AV plug going into the Xbox has a tiny switch on the black connection, set that to HDTV so that the signal converts to that. If you need me to, I will post a picture, but it's a tiny switch on that connection into the xbox that you need to move to HDTV, then you should be fine. |

I'm merely passing on my own inside knowledge of the longterm viability of these units along with problems you may incur if you fail to purchase a service contract with it. |

I never buy the extended warranties, but seriously considered it with this tv because it isn't a name brand. I think I will get it before my 30 days is up, just to be on the safe side. I am very happy with this tv and am using it as a monitor for my laptop as I type. Insignia does have a website with faq's and downloadable user manuals, so maybe they are becoming more official.
