Also I have a pair of the SD12 in my van and the wife would like to here this 15 now.

So the test cabinet will go into my van once we are done.
And the large ported will go into the HT room to replace a few Shiva Sono tubes in the room now.

When we did some tests with the Bash amps and the SD1,SD2 designs we found out a few things about these amps. And I will say the ED amps were a no brainer.
Tomorrowwe will have the LT1300 along with a crown and if Bobaslo brings along a Bash 500.
Why the Bash, well there is always the low dollar budget person who spends the money on the driver but is limited on funds for a good amp.

I am sure Bob will put up a few graphs from tomorrow testing, in room with a SMS1 ans well as I will do in room with Praxis as well.
Looking foward to this ... Assuming there is strong performance, will you make the designs available as a download ?

The sealed unit is of particular interest ... 8 of those would be pretty cool in our theater room.

Hehhehehe. Well, since your sealed box is pretty much identical to my sealed box, I would REALLY appreciate your opinion of this driver
Hey Ex... chuckle. Yeah but mine is veneered I think I'll put another layer on so I can call it a totally new project along with building up the varathane a 1/8" thick for this driver. I guess you know by now I'll have a few things to say once she's up and running though. I'm going to go ahead and try it out in a LLT sono also since I sold all my drivers to the Chuckster. Sheeze, all my DIY enclosures are empty.

Am I correct in saying that this is your very first XBL^2 enabled driver?
It is, I'll be sure to bring it over for you to take a look........ Hey look at that! it appears the driver will ship Friday, Monday at the latest.

Thanks Looneybomber for posting all the great pics!

Just one, but I'm sure it will be plenty since I'm not in my reg listening room at this time. I have room gain gallor down low now, but I'll still throw the BASSIS at it. It was your pics that finally put me over the top and Willd planting the thought in his Thread a few months back. I just have a real good hunch about this driver simming to the side.

Yes the sealed design as well as a ported design will be available from Bob once the testing is done. Then the plans will be finished and last loaded to Bob's site.

We will have finished subs which the designs will sold as kits and or finished.

This is very good news! It's nice to see other options come on line, especially kits, since there is so little out there.

Thanks everyone for your support, orders, technical assistance, etc. It has taken longer than I would have liked to get to this place but I believe the wait has been worth it.

There are more projects in the works so the fall should be interesting.

Thats how long we gotta wait? Man, I have very high hopes for this driver, and many of us want to know how it will do, are you really gonna make us wait that long? It seems like you are eager enough.

The frame looks an awful lot like the one on the JBL W15GTi series, though obviously the motor (and the heatsinking for it) is much different.

I don't know if it's exactly the same dimensionally, but at the very least it's "inspired by." And it's a darned good place to get inspiration, too!

That is a great idea, I have wondered why I never see speakers with heatsinking, some aluminum fins would go a long way to dissipate the heat.

I assume that a company like JBL has it's own proprietary tooling. There are so many baskets available that it's hard to decide which way to go.

As far as the fall is concerned we're evaluating the SDX12 sample and waiting for samples for our Extremis replacement. Then there might be a new plate amp, a Heil based tweeter as well as other products from vendors we already represent or are working with. Some of this will be limited to Canada where we work with American vendors and take the border out of the equation for Canadian customers.

Bob,
so where's the 18"er
the LLT/IB/EBS crowd could use a 18" with $299 usd pricetag.

Dan,

There's no matching basket in that diameter available. If we can find a new line of baskets, ideally going from 10"-18", then we might look at using those in a future product line or revision.

Just got back from Al's (RAW Acoustics) and while we didn't get as much done as hoped we did test both the sealed SDX15 as well as the ported. We used a BASH500 as well as the LT1300 but didn't have time to get to the Crown CDi1000. Measurement screens from the SMS-1 were captured via digital camera. The subs were in the right front corner with the driver facing out and the microphone at ear level on the chair back in the first row of seating.

General conclusions:

1. Al's dedicated HT room is remarkably well damped with no major peaks or resonances. Somehow all that extra studding, bracing and double drywall makes a difference!

2. The ported version has more output.

3. The low pass crossover to roll off the sub worked on BASH but did not work on the LT1300 sample we were using so that would definitely need the LFE setting on the receiver. I will take this up with Elemental on Monday.

4. The 25 Hz bass boost worked very well on the LT1300.

Screen shots to follow.

Bob

I think he said either "no" or "I don't know for sure." Regardless, if it isn't the same part from the same OEM, it was certainly "inspired by" the WGTi frame, which has been out since ~2000 or so. And nothing wrong with that. It is functionally as good as anything else, and while it may not have the pizzaz of the big Auras' frames or the grace of the Peerless XLS' frame (sadly not available in 15" or 18" form), it does look considerably less "generic" than the Venezuela 4-spoke or the curved 12-spoke frames.

OK since Bob can not post the images I will.
Here is the sealed cabinet in room done with the SMS1 using the settings Bob showed above.
No eq nothing on the SMS1 Just used for measurments in room

Below same amp settings the ported has more SPL and out put over the sealed

OK now the Ported design with the LT1300 no boost added and the SMS1 used in Auto EQ in 1 minutes time.

So my original idea of 9.5ft tuned to 16hz should be good to go then Because I have two, I may end up going with a 15hz tune.

Al's hoping to do some impedance measurements to see where the tuning actually came out. That should allow us to make more accurate recommendations.

I fail to see where much of this is relevant to the topic and I'd simply request that it not continue.
