Official Mitsubishi WD-XX734 Owner's Thread

I just wanted to get a thread started for the new Mitsubishi 2007-2008 WD-XX734 owners that are out there. I know the "65 inch model has hit the stores and there may be some of you who already have it. I'm going to be taking delivery of the "57 model as soon as it shipped out to replace my 732 that was sent back.

Please post up if you have anything you would like to say aobut the new sets.

What does this mean? You can't display a photo larger than 5 MP? 5MP digital cameras are virtually obsolete! This seems like a useless and annoying feature.

I believe you are correct it will only accept up to 5MP pictures.

I just hate the no Split screen feature (like previous models) .... I was hopping to hook my laptop on one hdmi and see my tv at the same time....

by the way I have the WD 65734 with the MB-65PB stand and is standing on floor (no carpet or wood)

I agree on the split screen feature being taken away. They left it on the diamond models, so why not leave it on the 734's?

How do you like the stand? I haven't seen one yet. Do the colors match the TV real well? Is the color more of a black or a dark, dark gray?

Also, the spec's mention the set having "Brushed Black Metallic" accents. What exactly is that?

I'm also bumed on the no split screen also. I use it a lot on my 57732 and it will be sorely missed. I also wished this set had the 120hz refresh rate also but beggars can be choosers.

Any owners care to comment on the picture quality? I just want to get some feedback on PQ since this new line has the xv color and dark detailer.

Also any gamers out there care to comment on the game mode?

Also can someone check to see if the old commands work to get into the service menus.

I probably won't have my 57734 for a couple more weeks since my local HHGregg hasn't been stocked yet with them. Hopefully I have better luck with this series versus my 732 which went through 3 light engines.

I just had my 734 delivered last night and I fooled around with it until about midnight

I have the audio hooked up but it still don't sound right....need more time to get it right

I heard some of the 733 owners were hearing a humming sound that was very distracting but I cannot hear it unless my tv volume is all the way down. I hope its just on the 733 sets.

Not sure yet. Mitsubishi is scraping my old set (WD-57732) due to it having 3 light engines fail in it.

Their solution is to send me a 734 to replace it with once my local HHGregg store gets them in stock. From what they told me they should be arriving soon.

I'm curious to see what kind of improvment this set will have over my 732. I play a lot of games and I'm curious as to how the newly added game mode works with this set.

Guys, i have a question. Should i get the old model (wd 65831) demo model that has been in my local retailer since Dec. '06 for $1840 or should i get the new model (wd 65733) for $2300 before it gets bumped up off the sale price to $2600 or $2700?

If i got the demo model i would get their 5 year no questions asked in home warranty for $300 (that covers replacement bulbs and anything else).

that sounds like a great deal on the 831 but make sure you get the 5 year warranty!

Check out the features on both sets and see which one is more appealing to you.

The 733 is this years low end model while the 831 is last years top end model.

It really should boil down to what you want to get out of the set.

If I was given the choice here I'd probably go with the 831 because it has PIP and also some extra connections I will be missing that my 732 had. Also with the $$ you save you on the 831 you can get yourself a nice AV receiver or an HD DVD player.

That's where i was leaning b/c it's not like i can afford the latest and greatest anyways, i just wanted to make sure i wasn't missing some super important feature that this year's model included. I heard about some new color thing (x.v. Color) but i don't think it affects "real world viewing" that greatly right now.

Without a question it's the 831! Mits really screwed up on the features of the new sets. So much is gone, it's not even funny.

I like my HD-A2 dvd player but I think I'm about to return it for the a20 in the store(I will have to pay the 99 dollar difference). The a20 is 1080p and I want to see if it makes a difference on my tv.

I've got an A20 hooked up to my 732 and the picture quality is pretty good. Just remember that when you get the A20 set up to watch a 1080p movie for the first time that you will need to adjust the color, brightness and contrast. With no changes made it will show a little washed out color and contrast wise.

Just take the time to calibrate it and you can get the picture to look pristine.

Steinfire, if you can please post some pics of King Kong that would be cool! I'm really considering this tv. On your sixth pic ...how far is your sofa chair on the left side from your television? I have a sofa that my wife positioned like that in front our current 32 inch crt tv and I'm wondering if the 57734 would be to big. Do you have any problems sitting that close to your tv?

Not that I know of but I used some of your instructions for my 732 and they worked out well on getting my gray scale closer to where it needed to be.

When I get the 734 in, I plan on getting it calibrated..only problem is my local guy is usually backed up for months.

Each input has its own settings so that you can calibrate each device the way you want to.

My HD DVD input is set one way while my STB input is set up another...etc.

I will as soon as I can. I got volenteered into taking pictures at church this week for Vacation Bible School nad we have been getting home around 9:30 every night so I really haven't had time to play with the tv yet.

I will take pictures of Kong tonight.....what scene is a good scene to watch for?

I will check on the loveseat on the side but I sat there for about 20 minutes watching the upconverted Nemo this moring while getting ready for work and I saw so many new things that I have missed before. You would think that it would be to close but it looks great at that angle. I haven't even sat in my sofa chair yet to watch......try that tonight too.

The TV is great it has and it automatically detects anything that is plugged into it and you can assign a name and the settings to that input and it will remember the settings. Also has Netcommander(don't know if the oldr models had this) but I can set up a macro function to turn on the tv, dvd, reciever and play a movie with one touch of the tvs remote. I still have to fool around with this too.
