My HT setup:

JVC HD1

Panamorph UH380

Carada BW 128"

Anthem AVM 50

PS3

Toshiba A2

Xbox 360 Elite

We love our new theater, though it still needs some work. The screen is still temporarily mounted to the cabinet, which was temporarily modified by our former capenter who proved to be too unreliable for me to trust him to work on my media room cabinet. The 2.35 screen is mounted in front of the cabinet though, mostly in place of the opening that was built to hold a 106" 16:9 screen.

We have too much stuff still going on in our new house so it hasnt been a priority for us to really finish the media room as it works pretty good for me, but we will be revisiting that soon.

Our game room still needs some pub tables/chairs and I have to get to work on some wall furnishings. My wife is mostly done with all of her rooms (all the other ones) so Ill be finishing this off very shortly.

First time Ive uploaded pics on here and am not sure if there is a more efficient way to do this.

Alan, feel free to move this to the approrpiate forum, if this isnt where this belongs. I believe Ive seen folks post their setups in here but there probably is a better place for it. Thanks!

Sweet room. That 2.35 screen kicks some serious arse!

Thanks brother! BUT Not as much as that projector does. 8)

Ive got 4 surround speakers to put up still. Not suprisingly though, my RBH SE mains and center hold their own without the others. I may just mount my two rear surrounds and leave the two middle ones out of it as they might diminish my wife's current level of affection for the room. 8(

Hey, tell her not to push her luck. She got the damn pillows didn't she!

Our similar taste in equipment is rather amusing. Anthem. RS1. RBH speakers (I don't own them, but I like them a LOT and would highly recommend them to anyone).

Hey Catdaddy67,

What an interesting mount for the projector and lens. Is it made from pipe?

Please send some images to Alan to be added to the 235 picture thread...

Hey does cold water run through those pipes to cool the HD1? sorry mike couldnt resist

#11 ·
Yeah Mark, those are threaded pipes! And yes, Wayne, cold water, blood, and the sweat of my labor run through the pipes. 8)

That looks like a very nice room. It's amazing how these things are never done however. You say there's still work to be done. Get used to it. HT is like an HO train set. It's never finished. Despite what you may tell the mrs.

Enjoy!

I think the pj/lens mount is great.

Myself, I'd paint them with a metallic grey or gold. Something you might see on an outboard motor. Heh, Mercury Black might just match the pj.

I'll unashamedly steal your idea if I ever go with a ceiling mount.

The room looks teriffic.

Congrats.

Thanks guys. Yeah I do like it a lot. I had been holding out on watching my 2.35 movies til we were in our new house with the media room setup, so we have been spending lots of time in there getting "caught up."

Im all too familiar with the "work is never done" thing. 8( Maybe someday. 8)

In person the pipes actually fit in pretty well with the projector. I could have painted them all black, and thought hard about it, but the black and silver look to them actually complement the black and silver look of the HD1 and lens, pretty well. Keep in mind i had lights up full and the projector flash to make that image extraordinarily brighter and its usually much much dimmer in that room so the visible "roughness" of the mount in that picture is usually much less apparent.

I am currently very happy with the performance of the Carada BW. It is plenty bright enough for me in normal lamp mode. White scenes, like the opening black and white scene from Casino Royale, come across as very bright to me, still.

In the near future, after I have caught up and paid off some of these expenses and new purchases that we have made for our new house I will probably go for a 128" 2.35 firehawk G3 for its ambient light rejection and the increase in the black floor that it will provide. That room is not optimally painted for a home theater and in some bright scenes I do notice a slight washout of the image in comparison to the image in not so bright scenes. In those scenes the blacks are amazing and the pictures are breathtaking.

From my past experience of going from a matte white to a firehawk G1 I know that the black floor will be even better and I dont expect to suffer much brightness loss coming down from my Carada BW, either.

I will post some pics later on today/this weekend.

Hey Dan, Ill need to get measurements again. Ill get measurements from the two solo chairs and from the front couch, as well. The front chairs are way too close, but is only used for additional seating when the other seats are full up.

And yeah, I dont think ill have any problems at half the output. I am in low lamp mode and sometimes its still too bright for my eyes.

Thanks Jeff. I love the work you did on yours as well. What a dramatic difference. Im ecstatic about being in the 2.35 club. Love it!

Hey Dan,

Room is 14' wide at the front. The front row, with the 2 chairs, viewing is 7' and change from the screen. The 2nd row, viewing from the first couch, is 11' and change from the front of the screen. Viewing from the third row is about 16'.

Viewing looks really good from either of the two couches. I prefer the front row, of course, where its total imersion. Because of the angles of the chairs in the front row, its definitely like seating in the front row corners of a movie theater in those two front seats.

The lens is 13'4" from the front of the screen. The cabinet is about 3' deep and the screen is currently mounted in front of the cabinet, rather than inset, and that is giving me a shorter throw ratio than I would like.

My throw ratio is currently at 1.6875 which causes a little bit of distortion, somewhat noticeable with a grid up but not at all noticeable with any kind of image on the screen. When I get my cabinet completed I am going to have it inset into the cabinet and hope to gain over a 1' more.

I contemplated tweaking the mount some to gain more throw, but have determined that its really not necessary at this point. Its good enough to hold me over until I get the cabinet finished.

The RS1 is plenty bright enough to fill the screen, with room to spare, in normal lamp. Like I mentioned earlier, sometimes its a little too bright for me, still.

That's exactly my throw distance you've got going there. (Don't have the projector or screen yet, though).

Is your screen 2:35:1 128" diagonal?

For the math-challenged (me) what screen width is that? I'm looking at a 108" wide 2:35:1 screen. I know the calculations to get diagonal measurements of16:9 screens from width/height numbers and visa versa (because there is a web-page calculator for it), but I don't know the calculations for 2:35:1 screens.

Thanks,

Yeah, its 128" diagonal. 117" width. I go to Carada.com and look at their 2.35 screens details, which have the measurements handy (whenever I get confused about dimensions- which is often.) 8)

Thanks Eddy. 8)

Rich, you probably already remember this but, in case you dont, with 2.35 screens, and horizontal expansion lenses, you use the corresponding 16:9 width of the screen when determining your throw ratio.
