KV-34xbr800 - Really bad Horizontal tilt.

Hi everyone. I just received a KV-34xbr800, which has a spectacular picture. The only problem is, the whole picture is canted slightly (about an inch) down and to the left. I've tried the Tilt Correction in settings, and I tried setting 2170D-1/NSCO in SM. Is there another place to set the horizontal tilt that I don't know of? Maybe a hardware tweak inside? I've searched for hours for a fix, with no luck. Any knowledge or suggestions (other than, "Google's your friend", etc), would be very much appreciated! Thanks.

I have the same model and have made some service adjustments, but am not happy with the overscan of standard definitition shows with the display mode set to NORMAL (4:3). 4:3 shows coming in on 1080i channels are much wider. I have a DVD I made with HDTV test signals down converted to SDTV. Monoscope has 5 circles on a square grid with a big circle centered and diameter equal to screen height. It also has smaller circles in each of the four corners that a great for checking overscan. The overscan is set nicely when the display mode is 16:9 (FULL), but too much of the left and right sides are missing in NORMAL as evidenced by the missing portions of the corner circles.

Oh, yeah. I remember there is a service setting that affects rotation of the screen. I would set that to the center of range, then rotate the CRT deflection yoke clockwise until the horizontal lines are parallel to the ground. Sorry, but it has been three years since I made my adjustments and do not remember the abbreviations for the appropriate setting, sorry.

Thanks for the reply! I'm getting off of work soon, and I will try the yoke adjustment...can I do this with the TV on or off? Is it mostly something that I'll have to eyeball myself?

I wouldn't recommend making yoke adjustments just yet. There's a lot that can go wrong, including electrocution.

You may believe that it is a tilt problem but it may be a combination of geometry errors that are causing your issue. A crosshatch type test pattern can be used to determine the geometry errors and quite a few service menu items can be used for correction.

Thanks! I've looked around for a good crosshatch/calibration disc , but do you have a suggestion for one? I'm pretty much looking to download one, if possible.

My recommendation is AVIA : Guide to Home Theater .

There are a number of jpg test patterns posted in the Sony Service Code thread but I have been unsuccessful at loading them on a memory stick and viewing them on my HS510. The memory stick reader in the early sets are notoriously picky about formatting of the files and directory structure.
