Zenith TV - no red color

I have a Zenith tv (model Z19A02) that's about 11-13 years old. Recently, the red color went out. There was no indication that anything was wrong. Everything else seems to be normal. Does anyone have any idea what the problem(s) could be?

I'm told that if it's the tube, then it would cost anywhere from $100 to $200 to fix, and that just wouldn't be worth it. I'm wondering how likely is it that the tube is the problem? If it's not the tube, would it be worth taking it in to be repaired?

It's going to cost you ~$100 just for a tech to diagnose the problem. Trash it...

Ditto.

Dump it.

And go get a new tv.

Now you have an excuse.

Maybe not the cash , but an excuse.

Yeah, I was thinking a new one would be a better deal. Especially since most places charge $50-$100 just to diagnose the problem.

I can't believe that most tvs now cost over $500. I don't think I've ever payed over $200 for a 19" or 20" Stereo TV. I can only find one decent TV and it costs about $250. All the other brands are of questionable quality (RCA, Emerson, Durabrand, Symphonic, Polaroid). I keep wondering if I should take a chance on getting the $100-$120 Durabrand or RCA tv or go with the Samsung which is $250.

It's actually not for me, it's for my parents. They don't care about all this new technology and stereo sound. But they would like something that will last at least 5 years, preferably 10.

Unfortunately, since Sony stopped making CRT's, about all that's left is junk. But the prices are fairly low for a 20" to 32" CRT with digital tuner, which I assume is what you'd be looking for.

There are a couple of threads below on low-cost CRT's, you should check those out. I don't know how durable they are, but I think Philips TV's look about the best of the brands that are left. WalMart sells them, I believe.

At least with a new TV you'll be pulling in the digital channels (assuming you use an antenna). And I bet the old TV had lost a lot of brightness over the years, so a new one should look quite a bit better. Try to get a flat screen model, it's worth it IMHO.
