Help me find a tube at Best Buy!!

I have some gift cards to BB, and I am in need of a television for my bedroom in a new house. I currently have a 30" CRT HDTV that I really have enjoyed, but alas, it won't fit into the cabinet that my future wife has selected. So I now need to find something in the range of a 27" set (my 30" set, which is 35" across, won't fit by about a quarter of an inch).

I thought I had found a solution with the "Samsung Slimfit 27" Widescreen HDTV" at Best Buy, but upon further investigation, it was just mislabed as widescreen and is actually 4:3.

I would definitely prefer HD if the price is right, but if it comes down to a quality SD set and an Insignia HD set, I'd probably go with the SD.

I have about $380 in gift cards, and would be willing to put in $100 (give or take) more if need be.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Well, you wont find any widescreen 27" HDTVs in your price range. The Samsung Slimfit is not a bad choice, but they have a lot of geometry problems with them, which could be trouble if you're watching HD content in a letterbox format.

Well, do you think the Samsung would be an unwise purchase? To be perfectly honest, I'll proabably just be hooking it up to an over the air antenna for now. I just didn't want to waste $200-$250 on a crappy off brand tv, when for a little more, there may be something better.

It really depends on what's available in your area. The LAST time I was at CC, they had a few (less than 5) XBR970's available, and the BB across the street had only the display for sale. Meanwhile I've read a few posts where the local retail stores are completely sold out of tubes, and only stock LCD/plasma.

The Samsung isn't a bad choice either, and I really enjoyed my 30" HD-CRT Insignia.

Do you plan on watching HD programming, HD movies, any gaming? etc. etc.

I would not buy the Samsung. My 27" HD Slimfit has been in the shop for going on 9 weeks, and appears to be unfixable, but Samsung is dragging their feet on replacing it. Their customer service is terrible.

Probably mostly SD and a little bit of over the air HD. No HD movies or gaming.
