Sony wants to replace my xbr960n

It looks likes my complaints were valid after all, this is the second time ive had a bad picture tube with this TV, and they dont want to do a buy back, or fix it anymore...

i paid 1600

so they gave me two options, of which i know nothing about...

For $150.00 more:
Model Number: KDF-50E2000
50" Class Grand WEGA* E series 3LCD Rear Projection HDTV (49.5"
diagonal)
Slim down with the KDF-50E2000 50" (49.5" diagonal) rear projection TV,
which features a compact body and barely visible speakers located at the
bottom of the set.

(Screen size measured diagonally.)

See Details
*------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For $550. more:
Model Number: KDL-40V2500
40" BRAVIA* V series LCD Flat Panel HDTV
Experience an exceptional 1080p high definition picture and Dolby*
Digital surround sound in a speaker-saving bottom speaker design with
the KDL-40V2500 BRAVIA* LCD television.

or they said i could go look around a store if i wanted.... any suggestions?

edit: i feel like im getting ripped off here, isnt warranty replacement of equal or lesser value?

I think im going to fight it, by law they are only allowed to subtract a reasonable amount for wear and tear, 600 is beyond that, and any wear and tear the tv had was from going to the shop to get fixed constantly...

Unfortunately if they replace it with a CRT it will be the 970. Not as good as yours. The 40v2500 is a excellent LCD set and worth an additional 550. Good luck.

It looks like it may turn into a battle...

I have had the TV for almost 2 years, and most of that time I have been trying to fix it. I bought it on sale for 1600 (not sure of MSRP at that time, if anyone knows, please let me know... I think it was 1800-1899) The TV's they are offering in exchange are models they no longer sell, because newer models have come out and by MSRP price are 600-800 dollars off of the 1600 dollar non MSRP price I paid for the TV!! To top it off, they want me to put that extra money towards a new TV AND pay MSRP price... I have no problems getting a Sony, even if they were to give me my money back... but I am getting ripped here.

MRSP of your model is not going to help since CRT sets have dropped and flat panel sets have also dropped. Trying to battle Sony is a daunting task I would take the 40v2500 set and pay the 550 dollars. It is a great set and you will be happy with its PQ. The 50" set is 720p and the PQ is not going to satisfy you.

The 50" LCD is not a bad set. MY friend has the set and the PQ is very good. The 40v2500 is a great set and would fill all of your needs. If money is tight, take the 50". Sony does not make your set, so the offer is fair. Your PS3 will love both!
