Samsung Slimfit or Vizio VX32L?
I'm finally ending this, I've decided I'm either buying a Slimfit TXT3093WH/TX-T3092WH OR a Vizio VX32L LCD. I'm assuming the Slimfit will have the advantage in black levels and shadow detail but the Vizio will be sharper but may have too much edge enhancement. Which do you think will look the best overall? It will be used mostly for gaming in my dorm and maybe some movies on Blu-Ray every now and then.
Or should I spring the extra $100-$150 for a Vizio VX37L? Last edited by bkchurch; 08-09-07 at 03:50 PM.. |

Slimfit....
after looking at LCD's for a couple of days lately helping out a friend with his purchase decision, i just couldn't stand the motion blur and the blacks just aren't there yet and probably never will be with an LCD.. I din't think they are even capable of an absolute black.

After a quick browse of the Slimfit thread I'm a little wary about reliability on these sets as well. Last edited by bkchurch; 08-10-07 at 01:04 AM.. |

weekend. Now I see your post throughout this forum still talking about "I'm going to get this or I'm going to get that". Make up your mind. I find it a little annoying now, no offense just a little observation.

Post this in the LCD forum, and I'll bet you get the opposite recommendation. Frankly, I think you're going to get what you pay for. My friend just got one of the Slimfits, and compared to the XBR970, it looks like crap to me. But then so does the Vizio compared to Samsungs or Sonys IMO. But then both look a hell of a lot better than my 15yo Zenith.
Just from my own research, the Vizios appear to be more reliable than the Slimfits, FWIW. I'm as frustrated as you are trying to find a good CRT. |

XBR970 go as little as $500 these days? People wasting your time to reply to your own thread and you don't use those advice instead jumping over to another TV making another thread and make people do the same for you not to take the advice. I'm not pissed or anything I am annoyed. Plus it's nothing to get mad about.

But it is pointless to continually bring it up. He doesn't care. But, that being said, it is his money to spend as carefully as he wants. Hopefully college will teach him HOW to make a decision. Right or wrong, just make one. With this type of decision making, he would make a good politician. Anyway, to the issue at hand. Bkchurch, It "seems" like you are AFRAID to part with the money you have. That is why there is all this indecision on your part. Understand one thing about electronics: IT IS IMPOSSIBLE to keep up with the Jones' with regards to technology. You buy that Vizio VX32L(which I think is a nice unit. Not great blacks, but for overall VALUE, it is at the top), and it will be REPLACED within a couple of months. A "new" Vizio will appear, and it may be 1080p at 32", AT THE SAME PRICE. No way to keep up with it. Unless you are a Rockefeller(or Trump, Murdoch, Gates, etc....) The new models will be appearing soon for the holidays, making the current pickings seem "obsolete", which of course is not true(to a point). You can keep waiting, and second guessing yourself. It will never end if you do that. Just out of curiosity: What do you CURRENTLY have for a TV? If you decided not to get anything, what would you have? If a new TV will be a DRASTIC improvement over what you currently have, then just get one. The Sammy's(in the CRT version. There LCD's are VERY NICE) have WAY TOO MANY ISSUES to be considered IMHO. No quality control. Too much of a chance on getting one you don't like. |

Ok, folks I really have to apologize. I've been a bit of a dick and I apologize I'm not here to make enemies and I'm a little frustrated and it wasn't right for me to be dink when you guys have helped me so much.
This whole thing has just been very annoying for me and I just want to find the best TV I can, it's frustrating the hell out of me for two reasons: 1) I don't have a TV and haven't had one for a month, I gave my 32" Sharp to my parents for an anniversary present to replace some no-name piece of crap 20" they had before. If this wasn't summer and I wasn't spending my time doing other things I would have gone mental by now. 2) This whole jump to HD SUCKS! My 32" SD Sharp had awesome PQ for an SDTV, accurate color, true deep blacks with excellent shadow detail, and very nice contrast. But now to go HD in my price range it seems there isn't anyway to get there without buying a TV that weighs 200lbs.(Sony CRT) or sacrificing my black levels and shadow detail (LCD). Anyway I apologize and I'm just gonna make a decision and sacrifice whatever PQ I need to and put this behind me. I'm going to CC on Friday and I'll probably pick up a VX37L. Thanks for the help you guys have given me it's all been very appreciated. O btw like.no.other I can't afford an XBR970 because there hasn't been one for sale within 4 hours of where I live since May. There is a 30XS955 on Amazon right now for $450 if anybody's lookin for a SFP CRT, I'd buy it but I'm not sure I trust the seller, he's new and that price seems to good for something to not be wrong with it but if anyone else doesn't mind the risk you may wanna check it out. |

Good luck with whatever choice you make. I know it will be a good one because you have definitely done your homework.
![]() People here hate admit it, but LCD TV's are the future, and they keep getting better and cheaper as the technology evolves. Sometimes on really hot days like today, I don't even want to turn on my XBR970 because of all the heat it puts out. And I dread the day I will have to move it. Plus, you can always return whatever you pick out, so it's not like you're stuck with it. In fact an LCD is much easier to return than a 200 lb CRT. So good luck and happy shopping. ![]() |

You may be happier with that LCD, considering your circumstances and the likelihood of moving frequently in college. That XBR970 is a great set, but honestly may not be ideal for a dorm room situation. Happy gaming. |

Nice kid. Anyway, if you decided on the VX37L from Vizio at CC, here are somet tips: 1. They will try there DAMNDEST to sell you all the periferals. Cables, surge protectors, EXTENDED WARRANTIES(capitalized for a reason, which I will get too). You name it, they are going to try to push it on you. Just ALWAYS SAY NO. Even be super firm. Just tell them you have all that stuff already, and it is MONSTER equipment(surge protector, cables, etc...) even if it is not true. This usually SHUTS THEM UP pretty quick since they have been brainwashed into thinking that Monster or THX cables/equipment was the be all, end all. Do all this until: 2. THEY GET TO TRYING TO SELL YOU THE WARRANTY. Now it is your turn to be a real dick/frugal bastard on them. This whole time you have been telling them you are on a budget, and now it is time for them to push the 3-year extended warranty. Now you begin to "Act" somewhat interested in the 3-year coverage(Vizio has a 1 year coverage by the way which is pretty good), but you tell them "This is going to put me out of my budget." Look a little dejected, and then say to them, "Look, i am interested in the warranty, but that extra $100/for 3 years is going to put me over my alloted budget, which I have to explain to my significant other(not true of course ). Do you think you could do better on the price of the tv? I mean, maybe knocking something more off of the price? I can't justify the extra $100. I will think about it, but you have got to be a little more laxed on the price and take more off."Now, not all the time(this is not full poof), they usually will knock of another $50 or more(sometime's another 10% off the price of the tv which would be like $80). And they usually want to know if you are taking this tv home yourself, to avoid them delivering it, since they are making nothing on the TV. But these schlubs get the big pats on the back by selling the accessories and the darn WARRANTIES, so they are usually pretty eager to work with you. It has worked for me COUNTLESS times at CC, BB, and Sears. You name it. I usually end up getting out of there with the extended warranty either for free(because of the discount to the tv), or maybe for a few bucks. Either way I get the 3 year coverage at a bargain based price. They are usually desperate to sell that warranty. Use that to your advantage. ![]() |

It is done, bought the Vizio VX37L at Sam's (I like their one year unconditional warranty so it was worth the extra $30 I ended up paying for it). Out of the box I quite like it, it's not a CRT but the color is great and the blacks aren't that bad all in all I think I'm gonna love it. With this I say goodbye and thank you to all the people I have driven absolutely crazy over the past god knows how many months.

Im new to this forum but this topic is something i have experience with.
I bought a VX37L from CC only 5 days ago. They had all their Monster stuff hanging off of racks that were displaying the wrong price (on purpose perhaps?) I picked up a monster cable knowing how much it was really supposed to cost... and proceeded to buy it with my TV. Everything was so well organized... it wasn't like the Monster stuff was mistakenly placed there... So.... the guy says well.. the cables are actually 150 bucks instead of 50 bucks. I tell him to give them to me for 50 since they are mismarked. He says he'll go talk to the manager. He comes back and tells me no... the reason being that anyone could have come in here and moved them around... LOLLOLOLOLOL. Yeah right... it was WAY to organized. I ended up buying the TV with no cables... ordered new 1.3 spec HDMI from monoprice instead. BUT... I plan on returning it within 30 days. I'm going to go to Sam's and get one for the very same reason you stated. Unconditional 1 year guarantee... The TV is great though... Discover Channel in HD is rediculous. |

I wouldn't even pay $50 for Monster, not only can I get the same thing for $10 at Monoprice (especially if it's digital) but Monster cables are made too big for some reason and break HDMI inputs. Anyway yea, CC employees aren't that intelligent anyway.

I hope you can tell us more about the set, since some of us here have a little time and concern invested. "the color is great and the blacks aren't that bad" is not going to go very far in satisfying my own curiosity. Are the viewing angles decent? Are there any service menu settings to play with? Have you used a calibration disc yet to set the color, sharpness, white and black levels? Also, do you notice any ghosting during scenes with fast movement like sporting events? How good do SD programs look in a non-native resolution? Sorry for bombarding you, but I want to know. I hope the moderator look the other way and not move the thread to the LCD section. If you start any threads over there please keep us posted. Thanks bk, and here's to good luck and good times with your new set. ![]() |
