XBR 970 Green distortion:HELP!

My XBR 970 often displays a large wave-like green distortion when very vivid red images appear on screen. Generally the image has to be moving although it has appeared with static backgrounds. This will at times cover the entire screen when background is entirely red. This does not occur all the time. Watching the animated movie Cars with red race car flashing by seemed to aggravate it a lot.
It never appears on more subtle pictures with less vivid color.

My first thought was magnetic interference, but you say it affects the whole screen, so I'll rulae that out. Does it happen on all inputs, or just the DVD?

The problem does occur on both live tv signal from cable box and DVD. Whole screen effect less often and again only on top of very bright red images. Cable box is beneath on a shelf about a foot below. Added surround sound a few months ago, sub woofer at least 6 feet away. However this distortion was present prior to surround purchase. It presents as a wave of green bending the picture somewhat then goes away. Never on less vivid images.

Sounds like CRT bad, if green area is brighter and washed out/bad focus.
This is common in low priced sets at least a couple years old. RARE on SON. And that model is only 6mos. to a year old, right? Actually I don't like that wide screen CRT from any manuf. I've seen.

Anyone...... Might this issue be related to the XBR's "Landing" settings?
