Denon Blu-Ray Player Delayed Until Q2 2008-

Maybe the Paramount going HD-DVD had something to do with it and they are working on Dual player or one that at least has a Denon Link output and SACD/DVD-A support?

Either way this player is looking more like my next player to replace my Panasonic DMP-BD10 & Toshiba XE1 (XA2) players.

Quote:
Denon delays Profile 1.1 Blu-ray player till 2008
Denon’s widely reported Profile 1.1 Blu-ray player is unlikely to launch (certainly in Europe) until Q2 2008. Consequently, it’s unlikely now to be the first profile 1.1 Blu-ray deck to market. So says Denon UK’s Roger Batchelor, who also confirms that the brand’s advanced AVP-A1HD and POA-A1HD pre-power combo have also been delayed. The POA-A1HD is a THX Ultra2 certified 10-channel power amplifier designed to match the AVP-A1HD THX Ultra2 A1HD pre amplifier. The pair was first unveiled at the Munich High-End show, back in May. The A1HD is DLNA (Digital network Living Alliance) compatible, able to access and stream media from PCs or DNLA devices on a home network. It’s also equipped with the latest Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio decoders.
Marketing manager for product planning and marketing, Jun Igarashi, says that the company intends to allow its customers to access to whatever media they have, wherever it is.

That's bad, something is probably going on behind the scenes.

CEDIA is going to be very interesting this year.

Maybe they saw the various rants from people, including me, that said they had the money to spend on a nice player, but didn't want to take the risk of it only supporting one format.

Denon- I don't want to have to have an Oppo981, Toshiba XA2, and your player. I want those features all in one quality player. I guess I can dream...

It looks like that is exactly what they realized: "Marketing manager for product planning and marketing, Jun Igarashi, says that the company intends to allow its customers to access to whatever media they have, wherever it is."

I would love to get a Denon combo player!

There is supposed to be some big news at CEDIA. I'm also thinking a dual format player, but Robert's postings lead me to believe that this could be something more sinister for BD.

If they include HD DVD, and multi channel SACD & DVD-A, all fully functional with HDMI, I'll preorder one as soon as it's available.

I cannot say in words how dissapointing this is. I had my heart set on this player!

What ever the reason for them delaying it better be worth it!

Waiting 2 more quarters a true universal players would be great. Better that way than they release the 3800 and 2500 now just for BD and a year later for a uni player.

Spizz,

what exactly is the source that you quote for the alleged Denon delay?

OK so let's say they are delaying these players...........

If this is such a bad thing for BR and the writing is on the wall, why did they delay their pre-amp and amplifier too?

Probably the BDA screwed them and they can't implement 1.1 comatibility in their new pre-amp and amp...............Sounds pretty far-fetched, no?

Maybe the marketing department just promised to deliver too many products in too short a period of time. Like that's never happened.

I hope they announce a reason for the delay next month at Cedia. The way things are going now with this stupid war they might be re-thinking Blu-ray only.

It looks to me like that quote is referencing the DLNA capability, not a dual-format player.

Wonder why they would delay the pre/pro, too. IS there still a shortage of HDMI 1.3 chipsets, perhaps? Or maybe the DTS-HDMA hardware/software?

Has anyone found the actual new article? As near as I can tell this was originally posted on AVzomibe.com on August 17, but has since been pulled... Also, twice.com posted this referencing AVzombie, but they have also pulled it off their website...

Can't find it on Google. Tried "blu-ray igarashi" and yielded links to the first post on this thread only. Maybe another one of those "I-read-it-somewhere" FUD.

For what it's worth, the Denon USA website still has the July 27 press release from the line show up; if the players had truly slipped odds are they would have pulled it.

By the way, no Denon DVD player as far as I can remember has ever had a bit meter, nor have they ever had a way to shut off the OSD, so that when you pause a disc, it says "PAUSE" in the corner until the screen saver kicks in...

Where does it state they are working on a dual format player?

Plus, Denon in the past has released players in the US and Japan quite a bit before Europe.

It doesn't. It's just speculation.

Is this delay just for the U.K. unit, or is it for the U.S. 3800BD, also? Does anyone know this? I wonder if this news is even credible, since it can't be found anywhere else. But I can't help but think, this may have something to do with the 'pending Warner announcement'.

many of the blu ray stand alone manufacturers are gonna go neutral and come out with hddvd players or combos ,they already know that the 199 msrp will be static and have been planning to comeout with players around that price range

1 big will switch to exclusive
1 small will go neutral

the race to mass adoption begins, imo
