1. Does the optical out on the LX177 pass through 5.1 surround?

Yes

2. Who makes the panels for the LX177?

Samsung/Sony (S-LCD Corporation)

3. Are there any firmware updates out for the LX177?

There is an update available on Toshiba site for version 3.1.69. First sets were on 2E, then came 30, but no one has been able to update successfuly yet online. The only way for now is to do the update via an SD card.

4. What are the known issues with the LX177?

Some owners are reporting varying degrees of "green push" with their sets, while others have none. Green push is a green hue that can be seen in shadows and flesh tones. It is most prominent in SD and most members agree that it appears to be feed dependant. For green push discussion visit this thread.

No other issues have been reported so far.

5. What are my options for connecting a PC to the LX177?

a) DVI --> HDMI. Max resolution 1920X1080
b) VGA. Max resolution 1280x1024

6. What are the dimensions of the stand?

The swivel stand for the 42" and 46" is 28.25" wide by 13" deep

7. How is the 120HZ ClearFrame implemented on the LX177?

A quote from Toshiba on this:

A standard LCD TV typically has a frame rate of 60 frames per second, or 60Hz. To avoid possible motion blur with fast motion video, ClearFrame doubles that frame rate to 120 frames per second, or 120 Hz. While there are many possible methods for creating the additional 60 frames, ClearFrame utilizes superior Motion Vector Frame Interpolation (MVFI) technology. MVFI analyzes Frame A and Frame B and creates a new Frame A+B. By evaluating the speed and direction of multiple picture elements within the frames, this advanced system virtually eliminates motion blur without decreasing image brightness or adding flicker.

Yes lets focus on some positives I need help I find that even though there are many mores settings option then the 42LX196 I am getting more picture noise, and sometimes Dynalite creates flickering.

Dynalite flickers for all of us I think. It is the tv trying to match varying degrees of black. I finally just turned it off. I found using the Dynamic Contrast can control the blacks just fine. I set mine at medium, but then I like deeper blacks.

Thanks Studdad! I have had this TV a few days, I do see too much green sometimes and pink on other channels LOL! I find I can resolve this with the tint adjustment. It was the same with the 42LX196 panel it had too much red at times ans I was able to adjust it that way. The blacks are much deeper on 177. I will try a DVD with my Oppo 981HD this weekend Im really curious to see the PQ at real 1080p!

You mean upconverted 1080p. You'll need blu-ray or HD-DVD for the real deal.

I have THINC on my LZ196 from last year, and I think it's worth noting as a cool feature to have on an LX177

Not yet, you only have DVI to HDMI as an option to get a full 1080P. I'm not sure what Toshiba was thinking limiting the set to 1280x1024

Yes LOL the 42LX196 would not accept a 1080p signal even thought it was advertised as a 1080p panel the 177 will
Last night I noticed a kind of oscillating (sound like a wheel going bad LOL) from within the panel as anybody else heard this?? Its quite noticeable

Got my HD DVD player hooked up and it looks fantastic. No green!

In fact, I did a comprehensive calibration yesterday on HD and SD and both required increasing the saturation of green! Everything looks great, though I still need to do some minor tweaking and play with some of the advanced settings.

Teepanen, you can add "none" to the HD column of your spreadsheet for me. I can post my calibration settings as well, if you like. Should I do that here or in the calibration thread?

I really wanna nail the 5:5 topic. Anyone remember what we concluded? A think it was a "maybe". Robert was saying that Toshiba had the best implementation of this on the market (120HZ). Also we know that Toshiba calculates and inserts frames to achieve 120HZ but was it true 5:5? Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

They better not be . Actually, there are not a lot of moving parts, if any in your tv, so I would guess something along the lines of your power supply (isn't it always the power supply ).

Had/have that problem. Its not the set, it is the grounding in your house. See if its noticeable with the AC running or the dryer. Line Conditioners and Isolation transformers help some, but the ground system isnt right.
