This had got the amazon sales going wild. Cannot believe all the new HD-DVD owners now. I am glad my first one came shipped broke. Was gonna wait till the A3 but reordered today. Why wait... Enjoy now.

Granted with the XA1 I only get 1080i and use it on a full 1080p TV.
The difference between 1080i/1080p is so little it really does not matter.

I will say for SD viewing, the Samsung player is better (much better than the A2, and a tad better than the XA1)
The main thing I see with the REON chip in the Samsung is better contrast.
Although, for the price difference if I did not already have the XA1, I would jump all over that A2.

Actually I am still considering it, for another room. (heck, the 8 movies normally would cost almost more than the player)
Average movie cost at 19.95 x 8 = 159.60 in free movies

I wish that I waited to buy my A2 today, but I bought it Best Buy a couple of days ago for $269.99 plus 2 free movies and a free $25 giftcard. It is not worth for me returning the A2 back to Best Buy to get this amazon.com deal, because I have a feeling that I would end up paying for the 2 free movies that I opened and pay for the free $25 giftcard. I do not want get hit with $75 plus tax.

I wasn't planning on buying the HD-A2, I already had a 360 add on but this was too good to pass up with the rebate for 5 free movies as well. I'll just use this one on my other hdtv.

More in Stock

Amazon has updated their stock of the A2 (it seemed to be sold by an external reseller for a while) so I was able to take the red pill! I thought I had missed out on the good deal

I got:

A2
Batman Begins
Phantom of the Opera
40 Year Old Virgin
6' HDMI cable

for a grand total of $225 with free 2-day shipping!!!

If you go by the MSRP on the 8 Free HD DVDs, not only is the A2 free but they are actually *paying you* to jump in.

If you were on the fence, this might just be the deal you were waiting for.

Great deal.
But please, do not become one of the fanboys that say 'oh the format I own is better'.

I have both and can honestly say, as far as PQ, that both are equal.

Not to worry, I'm partial to both red and blue pills. I just want my movies and tv shows in HD, regardless of the format. In fact Lost is coming out on Blu Ray in December so I hope either Disney goes neutral or I can afford a blu ray player, too!

I couldn't help myself so I bit on this deal. Looks like the old A1 is going up on Craigslist.

A2, 300, TMNT, the Departed for $210.

I just bought 300 at Best Buy, I wonder if I can return my Amazon copy at BB and knock another $30 off.

It looks like this guy pseudo-works for the 360 Add on. You only get two free movies with the add-on and the third movie is free under the buy three get one promotion so your total cost is just $179.99 (cost of the add on alone). I'd spend the extra $30 and get the A2 personally. This also works for Blu Ray (including PS3) players for anyone interested in trying out the dark side.

I ordered the A20 while they were out of the A2's. Along with 300, The Departed, and Happy Feet:

Items: $412.58
Shipping & Handling: $17.62
BN Promotion Applied: -$8.39
Super Saver Discount: -$17.62
Promotion Applied: -$83.85
Promotion Applied: -$27.95

Total Before Tax: $292.39
Estimated Tax: $0.00
Order Total: $292.39
You got free shipping!

I went back and the same discs with the A2 would be $202, but I have 1080p displays so the '20 is probably a better deal especially with the 24p upgrade coming soon. I guess I will add my HD-A1 to my "electronics museum" with my 70's Laser Disc players and 1985 CD player...

at these prices, i cant understand why every bd owner isnt format neutral. i got my 360 add-on for 200 when it first came out, and compared to the prices of bd and hd stand alone players it was a steal. $218 plus 8 free movies, you cant beat that

I'm mildly afraid that we will all get cancellation letters tommorow with Amazon saying this deal was a computer error.

this is a hell of a deal. there's no reason not to jump on this if you don't already have an HD-DVD player.

Well, I'm in! This also qualifies for the 5 free HD DVDs. I'm too weak to pass up 8 HD dvds and a player for $223.58 including tax and shipping.

Are you sure it's not still available? I know the three free DVD's (+5 from Toshiba) is still going on and that's still a great deal.
