Some nice prices on those too, but I can't be bothered. My A-20 works fine and unless someone buys it for me I won't get the A-30. I guess the big benefit with the A-30 is that there is no deinterlacing issues at 1080p.

Unfortunately, no he cannot. As an authorized Toshiba Dealer, he must follow the rules and only sell & ship within the U.S..

What sort of misbehavings is the A1 giving you? I bought my XA1 from VE back in May '06 and it works flawlessly.

It's starting to have trouble reading some HD discs, I'm afraid the laser might be going on me. Sometimes I'll have to put in a movie 2-3 times before it loads, clearing persistant memory or not. Other days no trouble, it's weird. That and im kinda of sick of the g1 load times, I'll keep the a1 and use it the bedroom but I really want to get one of these new players if they come through with above issues

I think the packages should have been mixtures of HDMI cables, warranty and maybe some kind of discount on a few movies. That would be enough to encourage additional dollars for Robert with things buyers actually want.

I agree this is a strange giveaway to include w/ the new players. Maybe Toshiba forced these old school TVs onto Robert as part of the G3 players allotment, just to clear out their old stock... Seems like it would up VE's shipping costs too, making for less profit for them. Robert's gotta eat, you know!

Maybe AVS'ers who spring for the package deal but don't want the B&W TV can request that Robert donate it to a local shelter, Boys & Girls Club, library or something...

double box

What exactly does the bare bones package without "double box" mean? That the player is shipped directly in its original packaging? That doesn't seem like a great way to ship electronics. Why not charge a little more and double box them without all the packages and other extraneous stuff alot of people don't want. Whatever. Maybe I'll get it anyway, it's a great price without tax or shipping.

actual ship date

Hello:
I am new to HD-DVD and am planning on buying a toshiba to take advantage of the 5 HD-DVD mail in rebate. I would like to buy the new a3; but, I actually have to have a receipt dated on or before 9/30/07 pursuant to the offer. Will I get such a receipt with this company? Is the the third week of september accurate? Thanks,
-Joe

Original boxes with UPS stickers on them abound. So if you think you are one of the unlucky few that gets stuff banged uo by UPS then you might wish to be extra careful here. I don't think double boxing is a big deal.

If he is selling these for 249.99 out of the gate with no extras, surely amazon will have them ~200.

I was a bit surprised with the packages, the prices seem good but I was expecting double boxing on the entry level.

I too would have been more interested in a package with the player, HDMI cable, and extended warranty. B&W TV seemed to be around $30, not something I was interested in. Seemed kind of ironic too, high def player, ultra-low def TV to play it on

Standard double boxing was touted as one of the benefits of shopping VE as opposed to other internet dealers during VE's A2 promotion a few weeks back.

All I know is my A2 was not double boxed as promised from VE when I ordered a while back - didn't exactly make me happy.

The odd one might slip through the crack, 99% of the time they'll go out double boxed when they're supposed to.

Do you commute from Canada every day to VE's Yonkers NY location and work in their shipping dept? They must pay well.

Yup, I remember ordering an expensive piece of electronics from Robert (A TIVO HD receiver). It was supposed to be double boxed. It not only came with no double box, but the box was beat to hell. Ironically, the equipment worked just fine and I have never had any problem with it.

The ABT chip could do a better job than the Reon. We will not know until they are on the market.

A3 for $249.99...NICE!

I'll wait though for the eventual deal during Christmas. My A2 is doing just fine.

Robert:

With the current Toshiba promo for 5 free HDDVDs ending on Sept 30th, and the new one starting Oct 1st, how will this work with your G3s?

What I mean is, the current promo applies to HD-A2/A20/XA2 - not the 3rd gen models. If you ship the A3/A30 preorders in September, they don't qualify for this promo, and the purchase date on them is too early to qualify for the new promo.

How will this work?

Thanks

If he operates his business like most, he will invoice you when it ships...thus your purchase date = invoice date = ship date. Just a matter of using the correct form.

Just my guess

The **************** page says:
" Buyers Choice, Pick One or More If You Dare...
Buy any of the following Toshiba 42" or larger flat panel HDTV and take an additional discount of up to $500."

Does that mean if I buy an A30 ($350) and a 42" Toshiba LCD ($1249) I'm out the door for ~$1100.???

The current rebate coupon doesn't enlist 3rd generation model.
