Berkline Reclining Problem... Help!

I purchased 5 Berkline 075 Chairs about 18 months ago, I have had them in Storage since while I bought my house and started my theater.

I have just finished building my riser and I put my chairs on them just to verify if the height of the riser was sufficiant.

My back row of chairs are push button recline while the front row is power.

I tested them all out and the middle chair in the back row{push button design} reclines when the button is pressed down, but it kind of sags instead of locking in place firm.

Is this something I can fix easily by tightening a bolt or two? or do I have to get intuch with a berkline service center?

CollinViegas,

I suggest you contact your dealer. The reclining mechanism has lifetime warranty (1 year for the labor, though). Your dealer should be able to help you.

Thanks for the suggestion Roman, However I purchased the chairs in the US then picked them up at the border and brought them over to Canada.

I dont think the warranty still applies to me.

Do you have any ideas on the cost to have the reclining mechanism changed?

Given your description of the problem, look under the seat to see if alll of the bolts that hold the metal reclining mechanism are secured to the frame properly. It sounds like the mechanism may not be secured to the chair properly and since this is a fairly easy thing to diagnose, I would start there. The mechanisms are built by Berkline and are usually very reliable and new ones rarely fail. You can also flip over another chair besides the problem chair and compare what you see in terms of the attachment of the mechanism to the frame and the state of both to see if the problem chair looks different.

If that doesn't work and since it is past the one year point and you are in Canada, you should contact Berkline and ask them for a price for the mechanism. Have the model # and serial number (found on a tag when the seat is reclined) ready when you speak to them. They should be able to ship you the mechanism, but I'm not sure if they will ship it to a Canadian address. You can contact a local furniture repair center to get an estimate to replace the mechanism at the same time. We have an extensive list or repair centers here in the states but not in Canada.

Correction:

The Berkline never uses Leggett and Platt mechanism on their domestic recliners. They have their own mechanism, which IMHO is much better than Leggett and Platt.

I would agreed with Ken and would check the mechanism for loosen bolts first.

You are correct. I knew the Berkline mechanism was better than the L&P but had thought for some reason that is was manufactured especially for Berkline by L&P, but it is not. It is made by Berkline in their own stamping plant.
