Anyone else annoyed when forced to watch a 4:3 SD CRT display?
Maybe I am an elitist, but it just bugs the hell out of me to be somewhere and that is what they have whether it be a hotel, restaurant, or bar. When selecting a hotel, flat panel HDTV's in the room are a MAJOR consideration for me. I was disappointed 2 weeks ago when I was at the Austin Hyatt that even though they had a nice 32 inch Sammy HD LCD they [GASP] had the damn thing connected via COAX and of course no HD.
I don't consider a hotel a 4 or 5 star property unless they have have HDTV and preferably a flat panel. The Hotel Zaza in Houston was the most pleasing for me. They had excellent 42inch plasma HDTV in the room with both local and national HD channels. Even better, they had cabanas to rent by the pool where one can relax and enjoy HD flat panel glory. I would usually watch the Super Bowl at my parents. Not this year. I forced a switch to my place since they have still not upgraded their 10 year old 55inch Sony XBR monster for HDTV. I will refuse to watch a game at someone's house unless they have HD. Anyone else feel the same way? |

Yup, ever since i discovered the glory of WS a few years ago i've never looked back.............well actually i didn't have a choice because all of our TVs were SD
Now my PC monitor is WS, and we have a 42'' HDTV It's even worse when i have to watch the old CRT downstairs because my brother is watching scretched 4:3 on the HDTV They get angry with me because i created a channel list with only HDTV channels on our D* box![]() |

You aren't "forced" to watch anything. Don't like the TV? Read a book. |

We have screens just as large as crt tvs that are only a few inches deep instead of a foot or more that are capable of some amazing time. Give lcd tech a few more years |

I could handle it for a few hours but would protest an extended engagement. ![]() |

I guess I will have to be the contrarian.
If you want to create a home cinema in your basement for watching commercial movies then wide screen displays are certainly the way to go. However......, I grow quite weary of watching cable/satellite news channels where the foreheads of the peple are cut off. And, since I still have four 4:3 sets here, I can see the black bar bottom and top - where the person's forehead would be properly displayed if the source would just provide it and fill up my screen! My opinion is that movies should be displayed wide screen, but for everything else, 4:3 is much prefered. |

lmao, so true.....AVS has the worst people on it these days ![]() I stay in hotels 150+ days a year, I cant believe someone complains about this type of stuff. Heck I watch TV on my PC everywhere using the slingbox, NOW that is the best damn stuff anywhere....DVR shows, all my DISH channels while on the road. That is cool....4:3, 16:9??? It does it matter as long as Im not bored in the room. You want perfect pictures in your hotel? get out and go to a movie (IMAX)...better yet go to a strip club and loosen up ![]() |
