40-50" TV selection...I know, another one.
Hey guys, long time lurker and first (I think) time poster.
Well, I hate these threads, but I'd like to think I've done my research do far. All I've found is that there are way too many TVs out there (A good and a bad thing). I'm looking for my first HDTV for my bedroom. I'm looking at a 24" Slimfit Samsung that I don't think looks too bad at all, so I wouldn't say I'm a videophile. The room can get very dark even during the day, and I will be sitting 6-7 feet from the screen. I will be using this with an Xbox360, 50/50 games and movies. Movies will be both upconverted DVDs as well as HD-DVDs. I'm looking for the TV that can handle that the best. My budget going in to this was anywhere between 1K-1.5K, with less being much better. I am considering all types of HDTVs. The reading I have done has told me burn-in concerns are overrated, plasmas have the best blacks in my price range, and a DLP should be cheapest size-for-size. A few of the choices that I have narrowed this search down to are below. Tell me what your choice what be of those, why you choose that one, and also refer me to other sets I might be missing. I have on other question before listing those...Can the Xbox360 Elite output whatever resolution I choose, or is it going to be 1080P no matter what, leaving the TV to downscale it? 1. Samsung HP-T4254 Plasma. I've read it has pretty amazing PQ. My main concern is that it can't fully display a 720P signal. Plus it would come with a free Harmony remote from Vanns.com. 2. Samsung HL-T4675S DLP. Looks like a great set. Have read a couple reviews talking about geometry problems from the slim cabinet. How bad are those? 3. Panasonic TH-42PX75U Plasma. See #1. 4. Vizio 42" 1080P LCD. Don't know a lot about this set, but I've read it's the best of the no-names. Is it worth it to get the 1080P, or is the PQ of the other sets more important?? 5. Toshiba Regza 42HL67 LCD. |

Tis true, it doesn't grow on trees.
But consider those dollars spread out over a few years, as this is rather long term purchase. $1450 is not much more than those other TV's you are considering. This one is 1080P. And the sound is superb. Rich bass and clear mid-range and highs. Outstanding picture quality. Excellent controls. Ponder this one and I tell you the truth here. I would part with my Samsung 5084 before this one, and it cost near twice as much and is a 50". This is a gem of a TV. So is the 5084, but not all diamonds are graded the same in brilliance, cut, and clarity. best, Chris
