Insignia NS-LCD26; 26" LCD
. Anyone have this TV? Does it have NTSC? QAM?
I saw it in the store and the HD feed looked pretty good. It was sitting next to other 26"s: Magnavox, Westinghouse, and a Samsung. I couldn't stick around to ask any salespeople about the TV regarding NTSC and QAM. Last edited by Woodrow; 11-20-07 at 12:48 AM.. Reason: no prices please |

well, i hooked up the 26" insignia straight to the cable line (no box or anything), and it recognized all of the analog channels, plus the broadcast HD channels (it was a little odd...some of the broadcast HD channels were on sub-channels of the normal channel number...and others were in the 100's for the channel number...go figure).
unfortunately this tv's going back (mainly because it's just too small for the viewing distance...but it also had a bit of light bleed along the left, right, and bottom of the screen areas where it meets up with the frame, kind of distracting). |

How was the picture quality and sound? Was the tuner slow to change channels? I think I'll pick one up. Hopefully mine won't have any bleeding. |

Well, the picture quality was decent. SD looked decent from afar, but up close it was a bit blocky (not as good as my Sony KDF-E42A10...but then again they're not close in price either). HD was a little underwhelming...it looked nice, but again, not as good as my Sony. With that said, I felt that the price justified the picture quality.
Sound was odd. I don't really know how to describe it...hollow maybe. I felt it would really only be good as a bedroom set for low-level listening at night. I would most likely end up hating the sound if it were my main set. The tuner was on the slower side to change channels, but I never really found myself saying "hey, what's going on here...why isn't the channel changing?" so that really was a non-issue for me. As I said earlier, the only real gripe I had with the TV was the light bleed around the edges of the screen. If it didn't have that issue, and my viewing area was closer, I wouldn't be returning the TV. |

Does this TV have optical or coaxial digital audio output, or just the left/right audio output jacks on it? I saw an optical jack on it in the photos, but it is in with a bunch of input jacks which makes me think it might be digital audio input.... If this has no 5.1 output jack, then that would be a deal breaker for me.... I saw this model today at BB and it looks to have very good picture quality for what it costs

Never mind, I figured out that it's optical output. I picked up one of these today. It's not a dream display but it's better than I thought it would be for the money. I was watching the Mizzou/Kansas football game for a bit this evening and noticed a bit of blur from motion, although I could tell that some of that was due to compression as well, but it seems to be a good set for the price. The built-in tuner is pretty good, as well, it picks up better than I figured it would for a budget tv. I was going to get the 32" Dynex for $449 but my local BB was out of it, so I got the Insignia instead. I'm not unhappy with it at all for the cost. I have been using a Samsung 940bw 10" widescreen comp. monitor with an RCA DTC-210 HD receiver, so this new screen seems huge by comparison. I tried a 24" Samsung 245bw display last night but it for some reason did not like my RCA receiver or something, even when set to 1080 it didn't look very good, and the SD stations looked really drab so I returned the 245 in favor of the Insignia.
