Anyone else thinking of getting out?

With Warner going Blu, I'm seriously putting thought in to selling of the HD DVD player, all 50+ movies and just going back to SD. I will NEVER make myself buy a Blu-Ray player. Anyone else contemplating the same thing?

I got a HD DVD player for the fact that Paramount has my fav movies, so i see no reason to even think about selling it. Plus Paramount has like more then a year left in there contract.

Why would I? I have a great collection of HD DVD's? Plus I do support BLU RAY. I'll buy whatever is available on either format.

I'm not getting out but I've cancelled all my orders for both Blu-ray and HD DVD. Just rent for now on. I'll keep my existing movies. I just feel stupid for even getting into this format war and have learn my lesson to wait if there ever is another one.

my buy in for HD-DVD was the $199 A2. I'll watch fleabay and unload it fairly soon.

It was fun guys..I really liked the format, but oh well. Being purple makes me feel a lot better now.

Unfortunately, this will likely mean the end of bogo sales and <$200 players.

I know the writing is on the wall but I hope HD DVD will become at least a niche format like SACD. While unlikely, maybe Universal and Paramount will stick to their guns and force dual format. I am format neutral (XA2 + PS3) but I plan to keep my XA2. It is a wonderful machine. Why can't we enjoy the HD DVDs that we have even if HD DVD does go RIP?

I highly doubt the OP will still be buying/watching SD movies in 2 years when most of the world will be watching HD in Blu-Ray.

The big problem is that all Blu-ray players are garbage. I bought a 20 GB PS3 a while back to be neutral, but there is no other choice.

Keep the HD DVD player. Use it to play your existing library and all SD DVDs. Also, you never know what may happen next.

Why not just go grab a $277 player at Sam's or a PS3 and enjoy some high def?
I don't understand the whole mindset of "HD lost, so it's back to SD". I'll enjoy my HD DVDs for many years to come, but there's no sense in not jumping into Blu. The PS3 as a Blu player blows away every HD and Blu player on the market in terms of speed and performance.

Every BD standalone is crap except for the Panasonic BD30. Even the Samsung 1400 is a miserable POS, not worth $277 or even $177.

If Toshiba can't correct their firmware induced DVI-HDMI-colorspace problems by the middle of this year or so, I'm dumping my XA2. I certainly won't be buying any more Toshiba products in the future. A frustrating and unsatisfactory experience for me.

I didn't know 3-4 minutes to load spiderman was a sign of performance

I'll probably bite when profile 1.1 or 2.0 are less then 200$

I'm planning on getting a PS3 at some point this year (probably closer to November, though). But at the same time, I'm keeping the 50 some odd HD-DVDs I have. The HD-DVD players are still good for upconverting at least. That being said, I'll be Netflixing future HD-DVD releases (unless there's some kind of fire sale).

Bought a 98 dollar A2 and don't regret it a bit.It's my SD DVD and CD player of choice now.The few HD-DVDs I have are staying as well.
If I go Blu in the near future,it will be PS3,which also will be my game console of the next few years as well.

. This news has really bummed me out even though I buy both formats . I was looking forward to more of the battle so that prices would continue to fall . I wonder who will be the first large retailer to start really discounting HD DVD's , I'll be in line buying as many as I can

I have been purple since the beginning, but that first year of Blu-ray was pretty rough; making me a bit more reddish.

IMO: HD DVD has made Blu-ray a better format. It pushed studios to create high quality video encodes, abandoning the antiquated MPEG2 format. Once the bulk of studios went VC-1 or MPEG4, Blu-ray encodes started to become some of the best in high definition available. With movies like Pirates boasting bitrates higher than those available on HD DVD.

For audio Blu-ray has almost always delivered. With Sony, Fox and Disney having 100% of their releases in lossless audio (even if only about 12 of us can hear the Fox tracks).

Special features it's not contest; HD DVD has dominated this arena, but now with profile 1.1 Blu-ray has once again caught up in another area. I personally love the PiP features, but if I can get those on Blu-ray with high quality video, than there is no reason for me to be upset.

HD DVD has most certainly helped lower HD player prices across the board. Boosting sales and enthusiasm for both formats. And feature-wise HD DVD delivered a solid standard of TrueHD decoding, internet connectivity, standardized HDi support and firmware updates that would often dramatically improve performance.

HD DVD may end up the martyr but I feel it's done a world of good for high definition movie watching as a whole.

Don't get me wrong, my A2 is going nowhere, nor are my HD-DVDs. The one upside for those of us with a decent catalog of titles is how cheap the high end players like the Xa2 and A35 will soon be (and I'm hoping the same applies for the combo players).

Even with the news of Warner going Blu, I'm still considering picking up a HD-DVD player, since there are still several titles that are HD exclusive that I'd rather be able to rent and see in HD sooner, rather than wait for a possible BD release. Perhaps player prices may even be lowered, though $200 for the opportunity to see some titles I want in HD doesn't seem too big of a price.

I don't understand why some here would consider selling their HD players, unless you want to try to recoup some of your costs. It's not like your movies stopped working, you still have a fairly large library of titles to enjoy!

I am certainly not buying any more HD DVD's...I have full faith that HD DVD would win this thing, now HD DVD's future looks faint. One of the reasons I got into HDM was for LOTR in HD, if Peter Jackson doesn't get the LOTR Extended edition done before the end of May, I don't know what I will do.

I am really surprised by this. Truly. PS3 isn't selling well and I really don't hear that much about Blu-Ray players. Hmmm.....Makes me wonder if Toshiba knew this was coming and THAT was the reason Wal-Mart "helped" them out and sold the HD-A2 for so cheap. Clear 'em all out.

Keeping my XA2 and buying HD DVD's that are available from studios stil releasing them. Anything else is on SD. I will only buy br when SD DVD's are no longer available.

First I doubt that the last gun in the format 'question' has been fired yet. Currently, more studios are signing up for BluRay, but the players are still SO much less expensive in HD, and that will surely cause a swing eventually in disk sales. Even though I intend to got format neutral as soon as I can afford a BD player as well, currently my purchases are VERY strongly slanted towards red. And I find it hard to believe that others are not doing the same. Remember, it was player cost that killed Beta, and guess who was responsible for that?

But even if no one ever cuts another HD disk again, your current collection and player will still be good for a long time to come. Don't replace yet again until blu prices come way down, like standard DVD prices did over the years.

nope never will. if HD-DVD ends in america i will buy imports. i also have a blu-ray player so it really doesn't matter as i can get WB on blu if need be. if this WB deal is true i think i'll finish up my Harry potter collection on HD-DVD as i already have 4 and 5.

but the movies will continue to work as long as i take care of them. so i dont see why one would sell anything.
HD-DVD is still here with exclusive studios so who cares

I've got an A2 for $88.00 (CC price match to the Walmart special) and acouple hundred bucks of hd dvd's. I've now got a nice upconverting player.

I'm not buying any more hd dvd's and will go back to renting SD's. Sorry no BD player for now. My next buy would have been an HD DVD with a reon in it for about $500. Can't get that in BD with a finished profile 2 spec. When I can and it gets a thumbs up from Secrets I'll be back but basically, I'm going back to the sidelines.

And by the way, I still have a Hitachi RP. HD Source is better that SD but not that much on that kind of system.
