Arrow Panasonic DMP-BD50 BD-Live Player discussion thread

Panasonic have announced a BDLive player with TrueHD and DTS-MA internal decoding. Excellent!

The Panasonic video processor, Unipher, sounds interesting. Is it in the current crop of Pannys?

I love you Panasonic. The things I'll do to the ethernet port of this player will be illegal in 98 countries.

hopefully it'll be 499 and they drop the price of the 30 to $350.

Where is the link that says True HD and DTS-MA internal decoding?

And where is the link to the price?

From another thread: Panasonic just introduced their new Blu-ray player, the DMP-BD50. Like we heard at the press conference, BD-Live is getting rolled out across the lineup and this unit has all the other goodies you'd expect in the latest from Panasonic: Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD MA, PIP functionality and the Viera-link functionality for control of multiple components through a single remote. Video processing goes through the Unipher processor, a combination of chroma and deinterlacing developed by Panasonic Hollywood Laboratories. Last but not least, this player gets treated to playback of SD-based media.

No price mentioned that I've seen.

Sounds like a great player for anyone without a new 1.3 receiver. From reading the official press release, it seems it will be only internal decoding of TrueHD and DTS-HD MA as they talk about using it with an external amplifier. Probably will leave the bd30 as the bitstreaming player for those with 1.3 and the 50 for those without. Of course you get the 2.0 spec out of the 50 as well. With Panasonic's great track record for the 30, the 50 should be good out of the box.

i was thinking itll would be at least another year before we saw internally decoded DTS-HD master audio, but now my fingers are crossed for the next ps3 update to include it...(at least let us be able to bitstream it)

This BD player will be an excellent choice combined with the new Panny plasma's. How about a receiver that decodes all the HD audio, now that would complete my setp.

Why wouldn't they give us date and pricing information. I'm sure they are already in production as they are very close to the 30.

hmmmmm

Ditto - makes me want to return my BD30 and hold out for it since it'll, hopefully, be full 2.0 spec. And hopefully they won't release a 3.0 or 2.5 or 2.0+ spec cause that is getting tiresome.

It sounds like it has internal decoders according to Panasonic's press release:

The true to the original source images are complimented by an exceptionally pure, accurate sound achieved through Audio Re-master and integrated decoders for the lossless Dolby True HD and DTS-HD Master Audio formats. Furthermore, the DMP-BD50 can be combined with a 7.1 channel amplifier and speakers for full 7.1 channel surround sound.

Well, there are many receivers that do that already, but with the BD50 you don't need them anyways. Pioneer just announced a 599 price for there new 1.3 receiver the VSX-1018TXH-K http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/06/p...o-and-dolby-t/

I don't have HDMI audio. It wound have been a pain with the current BD players on the market. Looks like I don't have to replace my Denon AVC-A1SE(5800)! at least for now.

providing there arent any glaring problems with this player and the cost is reasonable (<500), panasonic will make a killing with this player
