56-inch LCD at 3840 x 2160 Quad Full HD resolution (8.3 million pixels) $50k
"Westinghouse got smarter this year and made its two Quad HD LCDs on display a more prominent attraction in the booth, showing off 47-inch and 56-inch models. For those who haven't been keeping score, the 56-inch display is running at 3840 x 2160 Quad Full HD resolution (think 8.3 million pixels is enough for ya?) -- its little brother runs at 2560 x 1440 Quad HD and 3.7 million pixels. Both of these units are going to be released this year in Q2 ("March or April"), but you'll have to part with $10,000 to pick up the 47-inch and a whopping $50k to take home the 56-inch."
http://www.engadget.com/2008/01/09/e...d-hd-displays/ Who's going to tell them that they won't see the difference from a 1080p at only 50 inches? ![]() ![]() |

However, the only real use for 4K HD right now is a huge desktop. If nothing else, this might make the ultimate Windows desktop, if a video card is made to support it. |

So what's the problem?
It's only $43,500 more than my Sharp 57" I bought 15 months ago. ![]() A 70" Sony LCD is but a mere $33K MSRP. QUAD has been demo'd for the past two CES shows and it's always on the horizon but never at that $50K price tag. Thought they were working with Chei Mei Optical (CMO) on the Quad but perhaps they are doing their own version as the price was never at those levels. ![]()

This year $50k
Next year $10k 2010 - Start thinking about where to move your current equipment because 4K is coming to Best Buy. No really, this resolution is not a huge deal for a PC. There are video cards right now that support that resolution. Current games could play on it, but they may not be able to use the maximum amount of texture detail since the software developers didn't bother to include texture maps for resolutions that size. Nvidia Quadro fully supports 4K http://www.nvidia.com/page/quadroplex_tech_specs.html Welcome to the future. And I wouldn't run out and replace all your DVDs with BluRays, because their days are numbered too. |
