HD-A35 SD-DVD region free and PAL support?

Hello,

Anyone knows if it's possible to do the same as for the 2nd gen?

Thank you.

If you read the thread, they said it does not work on an A35. I'm still patiently waiting.

You are right. I see that it has only been installed on EP35s so far after reading through that thread. One thing that I noticed about the firmware. The 1.3 A35/EP35 firmware says HDA35KTU and this says HDEP35KTE.

EDIT:
From what I read there. Some guy called Eny- updated with it but is still NTSC only and can't do PAL because he didn't roll it back to 1.3 before he installed the region free firmware? Not too much details there to tell what's going on.

And people are talking about hex editing it so they can try to crossflash their EP30s with the EP35 firmware.

EDIT Part 2:
Looks like it might only work on a EP35 and not a A35 after reading this post?

I remember reading about a fellow called Spong2 having the same problem with the region free EP30 firmware on his A30 here.

Thanks guys.

I'll wait a bit for the A35 too.

I'm wondering if going back even earlier, like firmware 1.0 (if it exists!), if that could do the trick.

It is possible to make it both PAL capable and regionfree. In the famous video of hddvduser he plays a region 4 PAL DVD on an A35.

Here is the link to version 1.1 firmware:

You can always try and see if it makes your player PAL capable.

Just tried going back to 1.1 then 1.3 region free.

PAL still doesn't work.

Also I cannot verify with a NTSC disk other than region 1, so I can't really test if the drive is region free (but it probably is).

You do have a PAL capable TV, right? I don't think the A35 in EP35 mode will output PAL discs in NTSC, so you need a TV that is capable of both NTSC and PAL.

yes I do have a sanyo z2000 projector capable of both.

I also have my XA2 that is hacked as well and it works fine.

I guess we'll need another hacked 1.3 firmware to enable PAL.

Just tried a Region 2 DVD and I get a wrong region error message.

So the player is not region free and PAL doesn't work.

Yeah, I tried the firmware as well and my A35 is still not Region Free.

There is a "dirty method" now for both the EP30 and the EP35. I'm pretty sure it will also work for the A30 and A35, making them regionfree and PAL capable.

Did you get a chance to give it a spin yet? My player is on loan to my friend for a week. I will be able to try it only next week. Anxiously waiting to see my A35 play PAL DVDs.

Please note: ** It worked for me, but I can't guarantee it will work for everyone and I'm not responsible for bricked player **

Just finished and yep it's working!

I did not do many tests yet, but PAL disks work!

Also, I see in the setup menu 480/576, which is good.

I did follow the steps carefully. The only thing I need to add is that I tried the previous hack firmware which did nothing, in fact (I guess). So I started from there, which was version 1.3 (hacked)

Then after the entire procedure, I installed the original USA 4.0 version.

I suggest you use the original remote. Also when you don't see anything on the TV, just pay attention to the "beep" it does when using the remote. It will make it easier to click "right arrow" then "ok"

Good luck!

Pitou!

It doesn't matter which firmware version you are currently on, it will run anyhow. If you now press Display, 1, 9, 5, Display on your remote, you will see that the Machine Code is HDEP35KTE. This means that your player is now effectively an EP35.

Just one thing to be aware of. The HD-EP35 has PAL as default video system. So if your TV or Projector does not handle PAL, then don't use this hack.

Viking,

I'll check the machine code. As for the TV system, it behaves the same as my XA2. So yes, my projector supports 50hz.

Thank you very much for the great work!

After reading the responses from all the folks that have tried it so far, I do not have any doubt in my mind that it is going to fly with without any issues. However, if I happened to be the first unlucky guy and end up with some glitch, is there a way for me to retract and get back to A-35 status? Appreciate your help.

You can flash again with EP35-dirty1 and then the official A35 version 1.3 (instead of EP35-dirty2). Follow the same procedure document. The only difference is that you will only have 1 restart with the second disc. I'm pretty sure that will get you back to A35 mode.

Wheelz,

I only have a problem with original PAL region2 not being upscaled. I did update to A35 4.0 at the end.

Do you have the same problem?

Pitou i updated with the E35 4.0 at the end and i have no problems with my PAL region 4 or region 2 dvd's being upscaled to 1080p

PS.You need to go into the pic menu to select 1080p as it is reset to 1080i after the upgrade but after that its all sweet.
