Finally, there are a few owners of this new Sharp LCD so it's time to start the owners thread. Below is some information that I cut and pasted from Sharps website with some technical information. I will also try to get some pictures together to cut-and-paste.

Cornerstone Design
The SE94 series’ distinguished “Cornerstone” design sets these models apart from the competition, combining a stunning, new textured finish with eye-catching corner accents and detachable bottom speakers to match modern home decors. As with the AQUOS D64 series, the SE94 series features a slim-line design that’s 28% slimmer than the previous generation and 9% lighter*. The units also include a detachable table stand for wall mounting flexibility.
AQUOS Net
When connected to an existing Internet connection through the unit’s Ethernet jack, SE94 users can access AQUOS Net, a revolutionary service that is able to provide customized Web-based content as well as real-time customer support directly on the AQUOS television. Sharp intends that SE94 owners will be able to configure “widgets” to check the local weather forecast, get stock quotes or even follow their favorite comic strip, while watching television, all directly from the TV’s remote control. Ultimate Picture Quality
The Advanced Super View Panel on the SE94 series provides an incredible Dynamic Contrast Ratio of 27,000:1 for exceptional detail in both light and dark scenes. Sharp’s proprietary Fine Motion Advanced technology offers 120Hz frame rate conversion, doubling the traditional 60Hz driving speed, for even finer video performance. Sharp’s new proprietary 10-bit ASV panel provides more accurate color and the industry-leading 4ms response time ensures flowing motion in fast-action scenes. I've noticed that some settings aren't available to modify while my 360 is selected as a source. I/P setting, Film mode, and DNR are greyed out. When I switch to my DVR (VIP622) I'm able to adjust them, anyone know why?

simple there not needed your 360 uses its own ip in film mode i dont no why it dosent let you use it.

Wish I knew more about it 5harkology, but it looks like Interlaced to Progressive scan conversion. Someone please correct me if I am wrong. So I am guesing then, that i/p won't be available when receiving 1080P or 720P (like the 360 running progressive). Again, if I am really off base, fill us in.

Shark - is the option usable with the 360 set to 1080i like your 622?

There doesn't seem to be many owners out there. I was reading that the SE94 was going to be limited production so maybe that explains it. I for one, am really pleased with this set and don't have much to complain about!

I'm very pleased so far, although I'm still tuning and waiting on my DVE HDDVD from bbo. The banding is not as obvious as either of my D92's but oddly enough the blacks aren't as solid as the D92's (so far).

My wife commented on this as well.

I've read of ppl using the movie Master and Commander to check for banding and contrast ratio.

Haven't found one of these locally to check out yet, but the 65" looks very interesting from online information. I see the set is rated at 4ms response time - I'd be very interested in any thoughts from the current owners on motion handling, reduction of motion blur, etc. (especially in sports broadcasts)...

I finally found the owners manual on line. I went to the Sharp Aquos Advantage webpage and registered my set. Once I finish the registration process the owners manual was available to download.

I wanted the manual to decide if I wanted to return my 82U by seeing the differences first. I am happy with the 82U but as I have a month to return it to Costco I wanted to evaluate the 94.

I looked at the regular Sharp site and found very little info on the 94 series, then I saw the above reference to Aquos advantage and added a 94U to my profile making up a sn & it allowed me to d/l the manual. I think I might upgrade to the 94 series as I really want easy access to firmware updates that can only be done through the service menu on the 82 series.

It's nice to know the way to get the manual without having to actually own a 94. I don't know how much better the picture is compared to an 84 series but, I had a 64 series (just returned it to Costco) before this and I believe the picture is so much better that it's scary, LOL. And this set actually cost me $400 less than the 64 so it was a no-brainer.

Does this give you similar results to the Samsung 71 series and the Sony XBR which almost have a 3d look to them when using their motion plus settings(AMP on the Samsung)?

I picked up mine online from PCNation. Unfortunately they no longer show it listed. I was lucky I managed to pick it up for almost $1500 under MSRP.

I'm not familiar with the Sony or the Samsung units so maybe somebody else can chime in and answer for you. I do know that there is a demo/split screen mode that shows the difference in motion between 60 and 120 Hz. But I don't know how it compares to the Sony or the Samsung systems.

This is something I have been waiting to hear about this set.I am hooked on the smooth look "3d"type that the samie and sony have. also want a big lcd.
Could you look at a movie, or even lots of the hi def sitcoms would show this benfit.
The best way to tell if it has the smoothing effect is to do the split mode with something that has right to left camera pan or left to right. Some shows, of course will be no difference but some will show a big difference in no jumping around. If this set truly has this smoothing effect,reduce jutter,that would clinch it for me. I have 2 more days with the sony 60a3000 to return it,It is a very niced set and automotion is fantasic but it falls a little short when in comparision to lcd. Rear proj. just cannot do what direct veiw can do. If you or anyone could give further details on this would be much appreacited.

I should recieve my 52" 94U next week. In the mean time, how is everyone handling the installation? What bracket did you use if it is wall mounted? Any recommended height?

I am also trying to figure out how I want to store my AV components. Any stand recommendations? Pictures? So many setup decisions!

My setup will include:

- Sharp LC-5294U TV
- Yamaha RX-V663 Reciever (on pre-order with J&R)
- Sony PS3 (mainly for Blu-ray)
- Comcast Cablebox (still need to pick up, was using cablecard)
- Harmony 550 remote (really like it)


Still need:

- Bracket
- Stand
- Something for TV internet connection (Linksys WGA600N looks tempting, just need to confirm it will work)

Mitsubishi HDTV Rear Projection will go downstairs into newly finished basement.

Unfortunately the split mood only runs the demo, it can't be activated while watching normal material. Once again I'm not familiar with the picture quality on the Sammy or the Sony but I've heard people say that the Sharp (compared to the other two brands) has more of a "LCD" look. I personally don't see any problems with my picture watching movies or sports (if NASCAR could be considered a sport, LOL). It's too bad that the 94 isn't available in the major stores for comparison. I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help

I have mine wall mounted with the Omnimount UCL-X cantilever mount. I think the mount weighs almost as much as the TV does. But I wasn't going to take a chance will a high dollar TV and go the cheap route on the Mount. It's mounted so that the top of the screen is about 12 inches from the ceiling (tilted down maximum degrees). Since I'm handicapped and lay in bed most of the time about 10 feet from the screen that height is about perfect.

The rest of my system:

Sony progressive scan DVD
Harmon Kardan AVR-146
Dayton sub-80
5 Bose cube speakers
Harmony 670 (easier for my wife to use, LOL)

I'll wait till the prices come down on the blue-ray before I go that route.

That Omnimount sure looks nice and sounds like it is perfect for your needs.

I am actually looking for something low profile (no tilt needed). However, I am having trouble deciding between the Sharp specific mount and the universal options.

I also noticed that most mounts are rated by TV size rather than weight. 30-50" for example. Something like this seems like it would work because our TV is very light compared to most other options.

The Mount you are looking at says that it will hold 130 pounds which seems like it would be enough however, it only goes up to 50" which might be a problem. I would definitely call the Sanus people to verify it will work with the SE52

How about we wait until the first 94U owner is bothered by their picture quality?

If I have any concerns I will post pictures. Otherwise, I won't. So far, it seems like the first few owners aren't having any issues.

Can you tell me about the demo. Is one side jerkey and the other smooth?

The Tos 177 has a demo with a clock and is easy to tell the difference in the motion. The clock looks more easy to read on the one side

I respect your opinion and I agree it would be nice to know if sharp is making any progress. I wasn't kidding in the other thread when I said somebody should open up a dedicated “OFFICIAL SHARP BANDING THREAD”. That way everybody could post their pictures no matter which model Sharp they owned and everybody could see if sharp was making progress. Some of these threads get monstrous in size because of all the posts on banding. If we limited the banding talk to a specific thread it would make it easier on everybody. It's just a thought and again it's just my opinion.

On the other hand it's definitely a public forum and everybody is free to post/share any pictures/ideas that they feel are necessary and not because they feel pressured or obligated. I as well as other owners posted pictures in the other thread so I see no reason to repost those again on this thread.

Again, the intent is have a thread that we can share information and ideas without getting into endless discussions and arguments about known issues.

The split mode actually runs a moving image from right to left across the screen and as the image crosses the center line the images become clearer.
