Q: Will the FW update reset the settings to default ?
I have user settings for the Video section(Color, sharpness, etc.) and need to know if I should make note/record those settings prior to updating.

I would write down any customer settings prior to any firmware update, but that's just me.

thanks js...it seems your "vocal" nature has been greatly rewarded!!!

look forward to hearing *how* they fixed it from an engineering perspective.

as far as the fix goes, i imagine you can tell us if it is an "either-or" fix (i.e., either hdmi is fixed and analog is broke) or a "total" fix???

i'm guessing that the "25th" would be JP date/time and therefore those of us in the US might see it this weekend?

Excellent response from a quality manufacturer. I expected no less and was pleased to see customer support remains a high priority with Panasonic.

This instills customer loyalty and Panasonic has insured my next A/V purchase will definitely give them priority for my hard earned money.

I have been given permission to share this with you all. I've created a seperate post as the BD30 thread is long and contains other kinds of information. I will update this thread as I can and as I am told it is ok. As with any type of product of this nature firmware testing and releases are on-going so information, fixes, release dates, etc., are dynamic not static. Information can and most likely will change. But I can share this much with you all.

First, Panasonic wants to express their deep appreciation for all of us with all of us. They really do wish for us to be satisfied customers and they were as unhappy with this LFE thing as we were. They are sincere in thanking us for our patience and loyalty as customers. I for one as has already been posted am duly impressed with this whole thing in terms of how Panasonic has handled it from local, US based, to Japan based, problem solving. Kudos to Panasonic. Panasonic sends its sincere appreciation to us.

Second, Panasonic has created firmware that fixes the LFE issue and some other issues. I and some others have been testing the beta firmwares. I am not an engineer. But I am an experienced end user and can assure you the LFE matter is fixed. Roger Dressler has also been helpful and on the engineer to engineer level, the techincal testing stuff has been done and the fix is confirmed.

Third, barring any last minutes "bugs" that might be discovered, Panasonic is planning to release the official firmware around February 25 via the Panasonic Global Support site.

Fourth, this is for the BD30. I have no information on the Denon products. Also I do not know what the final firmware version will be named/numbered.

Fifth, there are items that have not been clearly stated in the list of fixes. Won't be until a formal/final version is released. That is the norm of course. This is not listed "Officially" so PLEASE consider it anecdotal. I tested Resident Evil 3: Extinction last night. The audio playback on my Yamaha 1800 was perfect, stayed at Dolby TrueHD, no audio problems noted. Sounded great infact. I did not have Sunshine to test. Will try to get a copy of it to do so and let you know.

Sixth, one of the issues being addressed with this firmware are some problems with SOME Samsung displays regarding and HDMI IC in the Samsung TV. A symptom noticed by some Samsung LCD/Plasma owners as a flicker. That is fixed although I have a Samsung RPTV and can not confirm it. But if you are a Samsung LCD/Plasma owner, help is on the way! One of the side effects of this fix however, not a bug in anyway, is for those of us with Harmony remotes AND Samsung TV's of any kind, you will need to edit the "Order devices are turned on" in the remote software to list the TV first, receivers, and the BD30 last. The way the HDMI handshake has been tweaked requires the BD30 to be turned on last. I have made this adjustment and it works perfectly each and every time. This may not be required in every setup with Samsung TV's. It is a prudent precaution to make sure HDMI handshaking is in synch is all. Again, NOT a bug. Just a timing issue. I had the same situation with a MIT RPTV as well so it is not uncommon to address the turn on order in the Harmony's.

While I am an end user and not a Panasonic employee this is as official a statement as can be. Permission was given to me to post it from Panasonic.

Also I had no problems installing any of the beta firmwares. They installed perfectly.

Load times are about the same by the way. And 24fps is not included. (Edit: Meant to say "Forced" 24fps is not included.)

Sound is GREAT. At some point when the full details of the how the firmware fixed the problem are released I will post the "how" it was fixed as well.

Jim

Excellent news!

Does the LFE fix require a menu selection once the firmware is applied (as some had presumed). Or is it simply transparent to the end-user?

js,

Thanks so much for this thread, and mission accomplished!

This was the reason so many of us stayed on top of this issue and kept beating it to death as we knew every little part that people played would help get a fix for the BD30. I would just like to say thanks to all of us involved who did not let up, would not compromise, and stayed focused on the goal. Also a BIG THANKS to Roger Dressler and FilmMixer who both played huge parts in this situation. I would not have personaly been so persistent if I did not think so highly of the BD30 otherwise. This is AVS at its best!

Nice work Panasonic. I hear this was a lot of work. Here to hoping the 10A get an update to fix its LFE problem as well.

I knew Panasonic would work these issues out in a timely manner. Excellent company, all around, with great respect for their customer base, especially the enthusiast crowd like us. They have treated me very, very good with regards to some issues I had with my Plasma too. (see Purple Snakes in the Plasma forum)

Great news! This means that the LFE bug will not be present in the Panny 50, which was the one variable in my decision. It looks as if I am gonna go purple in the next few months!
