My folks have one of these Motorola DCH 3416 cable box units, but a couple days ago a power outtage/surge resulted in something getting fried within the box. The unit simply would not turn on and after contacting customer service, they were advised to bring the box in for a replacement.

They arrived at the cable service provider's service center and they explained that they wanted to know if there was a way to keep their old recorded material, and the tech said that although he could not do the hard drive swap for them, they were allowed to take back the new cable box and the old one and see if they could do it themselves.

My dad swapped out the hard drive and the red "M Card?" and they show up as recorded programs in the menu - but when you try and play them, nothing happens. The play bar comes up, but whatever is currently on TV just continues to be played. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Sorry about the crappy pic quality - did it from my phone.
