There looks to be a a new DVR feature that is not yet documented on the Comcast web site. The feature is a part of the new A25 guide. It works for DVR recordings and allows you to skip ahead or skip back 5 minutes at a time. The skip ahead is accessed via the page up button and the skip back is done via the page down button. This is onthe Comcast silver remote. I have a DCT 6412 and a DCT 6208 (I know, I need to get a new box) and this feature works on both of these boxes.

Does anyone else have this new skip feature?

I can reverse 15 seconds with the button on the silver remote (the instant rewind button) and I also have the 30 second skip set up as per other posts on this forum.

The 5 minutes is helpful when you want to move ahead in a movie or a longer recorded program.

I think TiVO offers a 15 minute skip ahead which is too long in my opinion.

I noticed this a week or so ago also, and not happy with it. I used the PgUp and PgDn button frequently to skip over commercial breaks, but 5 minutes is wayyyyy too long for this purpose. Of course, I can use the FF button to skip but it's not always accurate and sometimes there's a delay in playing again, whereas hitting the PgUp button a few times is just enough to get you back to the show.

I realize it's a minor gripe, but it's one of the most frequently used features of the remote. Is there a way to set it back to 30 seconds?

You can still program a 30-second skip on your own to any of your remote control's buttons:

Press the “Cable” button at the top of the remote to put it into Cable Box control mode.
Press and hold the “Setup” button until the “Cable” button blinks twice.
Type in the code 994. The “Cable” button will blink twice.
Press (do not hold) the “Setup” button.
Type in the code 00173.
Press whatever button you want to map the 30-second skip command to (ex: A / Lock). The “Cable” button will blink twice if successful.

That way you will have multiple ways to skip ahead.

OK - I programmed my remote to skip forward but chose the wrong button. Now I can't move around using the > key. How do I un-program it?

I feel a little dumb.

You'll have to reset it probably. Full instructions here
