Hello all,

I'm a newby here and am wondering if anyone can clear up which cables support Dolby 5.1. I just switched to Verizon Fiber service and have a HD DVR (Verizon/Motorola QIP7200). This has outputs for Analog Audio L/R, Digital Audio (S/PDIF) and Optical Audio (S/PDIF) and HDMI. I want to send the best signal possible to my new JVC THL1 which has inputs for everthing.

I want to get this right because I'm going to pushing this cabling through walls, so my questions are:

What cable types support Dolby Digital 5.1?
In order (best to worst) which cables produce the best Dolby Digital 5.1?

I know that HDMI will do it, but because of the head on a HDMI cable I'm not thrilled about trying to fish this through a wall. Optical and coaxial S/PDIF have smaller heads which equals easier pulls, but I can't seem to get a conclusive answer on if these support Dolby Digital 5.1

If I've missed a post or website which already explains this please point me in that direction and I'll read up. I appreciate your help in advance.

Regards,

Waferboy

I can't give you any advice as to which is best, but I can confirm that both Digital Coax and Toslink/Digital Optical can transmit DD5.1 audio.

Good luck with your installation!
