I'm trying to determine if anyone makes a DVR that can be programmed without the use of a subscription service (i.e. just select a channel, start/finish time - like the old VCR.)

I live in a rural area and only use over the air broadcast TV. Ideally I would like to find a DVR that could also play record DVD's.

Any ideas out there for a low-tech digital TV newbie like myself?

Appreciate your time and consideration.

Your best bet would be a DVD Recorder with built-in tuner, thats like a digital VCR replacement.

Philips 3576H or Magnavox H2160. For more info head on over to the DVD Recorders forum.
