So with all the great deals out there on flat panel TV's we have pretty much decided to get rid of our 36" tube and put a flat panel 50" in the family room.

And I need a little help. We have in our home four Samsung Tivo DirecTV units. I know that when taking the step to HD DirecTV that we will need to upgrade our service to HD, and that of course means a new DVR.

The problem is, we don't want to lose the 'Tivo' software - I've seen other "DVR's" that are HDTV, and I don't want to lose the Tivo software. I want the same look and feel as in the other rooms - and quite frankly I don't want to learn anything new.

So, is there a good Tivo HD Receiver that will work on DirecTV? Any models that you guys can recommend on eBay? Are there any detriments to doing this?

Thanks for the advice!

-Paul

Unfortunately none of the HD TiVos currently work with DirecTV. The Series3 and TiVo HD (and HD XL) only work with OTA and cable services. The HR10-250 from DirecTV doesn't work with any of the new MPEG-4 HD content; there are only a handful of MPEG-2 HD channels still available via DirecTV, and those will likely be going away in the coming year. There will supposedly be a new TiVo-based DirecTV-capable DVR sometime next year, but exactly when it'll be available (and of course, how much you'll get nicked for to get it) is still up in the air. Currently your only practical option if you need something in the immediate future or right now is the HR2x DVRs; I know they're not TiVo, but until the new DirecTiVo appears, TiVo isn't really an option for you. Sorry.
