I bought a new tv recently and I am looking to upgrade from DVR to HD DVR so I was wondering if there is any way I can transfer the movies on my current DVR to an external hardrive or something. Thanks

Not directly since they use an encrypted storage on the internal hard drive.
You can play them out to the analog video/audio outputs and record in realtime to an external NTSC video recorder like a VCR, DVD recorder, or a PC video capture device.
