I have the Scientific Atlanta 8240HDC connected to an Onkyo TX-SR606 via HDMI, which then connects via HDMI to my Dell TV.

Only the video is passed to the TV, the audio is processed through the Onkyo receiver (which is how I want it). The problem is that when I change the volume on the DVR it doesn't effect the volume at all.

I don't believe this is a problem with the Onkyo at all. Moreover, I think that this DVR has a fixed HDMI output volume level. Is this so? If not, please tell me what in the world I need to change.

Obviously, I don't want to have to use 2 remotes, when I should be able to use only the DVR remote to control anything pertaining to the TV. By the way, the remote for the DVR does not have codes for the Onkyo.
