Is there one that requires no service like tivo ? I want to get my wife's young and the restless off my good TV and dvr. I bought a new lcd and plugged the coax into it and was surprised at how many hd channels are there with no box.

Jeff

But that's just me.......

TiVo allows you to eliminate all future service fees with a single upfront payment. The service fees are just the means to make an expensive product more affordable.

If you are willing to use an antenna, there is a lower-cost alternative -- the DTVPal DVR. See the link in my signature for more information.

Also, if you're going to stick exclusively with cable, there is the Moxi HD DVR; it has no service fee (but is more expensive that a TiVo with lifetime service, and still requires rental of a CableCARD).
