Anyone know if Tivo has plans to fully support 2-way communication with the newer CableCARDS?
The current generation of TiVo hardware will, unfortunately, never support full two-way communication, due to requirements of the license under which it was produced. There has been discussion of a Series4 TiVo unit, which will incorporate tru2way for two-way communications and access to cableco VoD, PPV and other services, but when that will materialize isn't really yet known.
Also, there's no such thing as a "2-way" CableCARD; all CableCARDs have the ability to operate in a two-way host device, but only if that device is capable of two-way operation. Unfortunately, as I mentioned, devices like the TiVo HD were produced under license terms which specifically barred TiVo from including hardware for upstream communication, which is why it's not possible. The only thing the M-Cards add that the S-Cards didn't was multistream functionality (up to 6 simultaneous streams per card).
