I have an old Phillip Direct TV DVR model R15-300. I have moved to ATT Uverse and do not need this any more.

Is there any use for this as a DVR? My mother is on a Cable system with no Cable Box.

Is there any chance this would record and play?

Or should I just sell it on Ebay for $25?

It probably won't do anything without an active subscription. You certainly won't get any guide data, assuming it'll boot and be useful at all.

Probably not.

You should check and see if that's a leased box; if it is, it should be returned to D*, not sold. If you bought it outright, of course, then it's yours to do with as you please; sell it in the paper, on CraigsList, on eBay, or smash it with a hammer if you like.
