I recently recorded the movie Airborne on my Directv hd dvr during the starz free preview weekend. I was blown away to see it show up in hd, granted directv's compressed version, but still it is costly to get this movie on dvd. So I haved it saved on my dvr and I want to back it up and was wondering what the easiest way to go about doing this would be. I have been reading up and the only solution I have really found is the Hauppauge HDPVR-1212 over component. If this is the only solution so be it, but I was wondering if there are any other solutions out there. Also, I would like to preserve the quality the best I can so space and cost (within reason) isn't really an issue.

Unless you've got one of those HD VCRs, your best would be to use one of the other available video outs on your D* box and record playback to whatever recording device that you're going to use and record in its HQ mode.
