Would like to use hauppauge 1212 hd dvr to record 360 gameplay on pc but the pc is about 20' from the 360/tv area, has anyone had any luck using a longer USB cable between dvr and pc than what comes with dvr, hauppauge does not recommend it on their web site

I would use an active USB extension cable and not just a passive one. Something like this from Monoprice:

I just tested the connection between my 1212 and the PC using a similar cable I purchased from them about a year ago, made a short test recording at 1920 x 1080 and had no issues.

As long as the extension cable is rated for USB 2.0 you should be OK.

Thanks for the advice, my other option was to put the pvr next to the pc and run 2 sets of 5 RCA component cables from 360 and back to tv
