Hi - I've been playing around with my SA8000 (with Passport software) for the past week or so and have a really banal question... how can I check how much time is remaining on the hard drive??

My only previous experience with PVRs was a Dish 501 which stated the appx remaining recording time on menu of saved shows.

The SA Explorer 8000 has no such indicator; all you can do is manually count the hours recorded. Max is no more than 30 hours for analog tier channels; SA says up to 50 hours for digital tier channels. If you do a mix, the number should be somewhere in-between. The differences appear to related to encoding effiiencies; in-box encoding of analog channels is less efficient than that of digital channels MPEG2 streams.

Latest Summary on COLUMBIA SC HDTV can be found here.

Thanks bruce that explains why its always different for me, actually I like the way the software adds an hour glass next to shows that are about to be deleted and says, 3 days left, 2 days etc..

It's pretty simple, i go to the ones that say less than a day left, I watch a few, delete them and then the others get more time, not that difficult.

I would like to know however if anyone has successfully replaced the internal HD with a bigger one giving you more time.
