Hello all,
I have been thinking about building my own PVR for some time now, but just recently realized something. I will be moving in the next month or so and getting DirecTV. Am I wrong in that my PVR will then become useless since it can't change channels and such (aka, DirecTV's box has to do it)? Basically PVR's (unless you get the ones direct from the companies like Comcast or DirecTV) will not work with anything but analog cable... Is that a correct assumption?
TIA!
Julian

Its possible but cumbersome.

You have to add an IR transmitter to your homebrew pvr so it can pretend to be a remote and tell the other tuning devices (sat reciever, cable box, VCR, etc) to change channels (or other settings).

Of course, this assumes the other tuning devices can be controlled via IR.

There is a pc based pvr made by tapeitall that can do all you ask, even change Sats on a C band system.

Quality TV = C-Band
