"Sharp Friday released a digital personal video recorder (PVR) in Japan that has built-in Wi-Fi access for distributing video.
The announcement came from Instant802 Networks, a California firm that provided the WLAN software platform to Sharp. That company said in a statement that the new device leverages the high concentration of home wireless networks.
"The home market, and consumer electronics specifically, are extremely well suited to 802.11 wireless technology," Greg Nuyens, Instant802 Networks's said in a statement. "This market has been searching for simple, low-cost networking solutions for some time."
Besides connecting to a home WLAN, the PVR provides WPA security and acts as an access point."
I have no idea when or if it will make to the US.
