I have an old RePlay TV and love the $0 monthly service fee. I'm thinking about adding a PVR type card to my PC. Which ones work best and don't have a monthly service charge to deal with? Any issues with saving the recorded shows to DVD?

Thanks,

Don

I don't think any of them have a service charge, but I haven't followed the HTPC forum lately. However, all the shipping cards are also limited to VCR-type functionality, afaik. They aren't comparable to Tivos in terms of what they can do.

I have an ATI ALL-IN-WONDER and it records similar to TIVO in the sense that you download a program guide and it records it to the hard drive.

It lets me select video quality which allows me to determine how much disk space is used.

I guess my main gripe about them is that you only get the Analog Channels.

Yes, the ATI All In Wonder cards come with DVD hardware assist, recording from svideo, composite, or cable/RF input, and DivX ships a player with ATI-specific optimizations/cleanups.

The TV tuner software can do timeshift recording just like a Tivo (pause live TV, play/ffwd until catch up to realtime), and can do scheduled recordings either entered manually or using the Guide+ schedule software (which gives 7-day-advance schedules).
