I m looking for a tivo like gadget.
I watch a lot of international programming through a relatively unknown ( globecast ) satellite provider.
So the services provided by Tivo is not of much use for me. ( Like record a particular program whenever it is on air, etc. )

I m looking for a hard disk based digital video recorder.
I want to record 24 hours of program and then, watch it when I come back home from work. ( Out of the 24 hours, there will be only 2-3 hours of good programs worth watching )

I came across DMR E80H, and it sounded very nice, but the following questions are not clear with it.
1. Can it record 24 hours of programs ( I mean can it be run for that much time, continuously ? )
2. Can it pause live TV. ( Suppose I get a phone call, I can pause live TV and then come back and continue from where I paused )

3. Also does it have timer related functionalities ? ( Can I say record this program from this channel at this time of the day ?

Also pl suggest if there is a better box for my purpose.

Thanks

Don't get DVR (Digital Video Recorder) confused with DVDR (DVD Recording). The E80 (a DVDR) will not serve the purpose you're looking for. It's not designed to pause live TV. Yes, you can record live TV to DVD-RAM and watch later, then erase.....but, it's not an elegant solution. Your best bet is to get a RCA DRC700N (should be pretty cheap online), which will give you a hard-drive based digital video recorder.

Thanks a lot glenw:
DVR is exactly what I was looking for. But all the ones I found were from companies like tivo, replaytv etc. - requiring subscription.
I was wondering if there are other DVRs out there.

Thanks again

The Drs7000n seems to be out of production. It was replaced by the DRC7005n. The DRC7005n is a better model. It has more efficent use of its harddrive, and its harddrive can be upgraded. It has no subscription service. The guide plus system is quirky but it can be used has a reliable vcr replacement. I upgraded my harddrive from 40 gig to 80 gig and now have 127 hours of recording capacity in low mode and 64 hours in basic .

Hi, this is my first post here :)

The E80 does indeed have a hard disk, and is capable of pausing live TV, assuming you are recording and playing the program as you record it.
