I just had a quick question about this unit if anyone has had experience with it. My Comcast service will be offering this unit soon in my area. But I was wondering if it is possible to watch live TV without the constant streaming through the PVR unit. I presently have a Replay unit, which I like, however I like the fact that I can turn the unit off because I notice when it is on and I watch my Hi Def TV, the picture quality is degraded, enough to make me absolutely nuts. So I turn off the Replay when I'm watching shows I really like and want a quality picture. I'm worried that with the Motorola 2 tuner unit, I won't be able to turn of the PVR and have to watch fuzzy TV all of the time. Most people probably aren't bothered by this, but I'm fussy about it. Any info would be appreciated.

For analog channels (typically 1-99) on Comcast, the quality will depend on how the software on the box handles live vs buffer. If it buffers everything like the ReplayTV, there will be some degradation.

The degradation occurs when the DVR is converting the analog signals to digital, as it must before it can save them to the hard disk.

For digital channels (typically 100+) on Comcast, there will be no degradation whatsoever. Moreover, recordings of digital and high-definition channels will be identical to the original live broadcast.
