I'm in the market for a dvd burner and would like to get one combined with a PVR. And, I don't want to pay the $156 a year for a pay service.

The Panasonic E85 has that cool TV Guide programming feature but the manual says it doesn't work with satellite. The Toshiba RD-SX32 seems to only have VCR plus which DirecTV doesn't use. The guide on DirecTV is way to slow and unwieldy to do some serious programming and I lost my vcr mouse a long time ago (I have an old Sony Sat B2).

What are my options? I would be happy with some kind of internet site or program that I could run on the computer and transfer to the machine (on cd or with a cable, I don't have a pc burner) it it's available.

What are my options?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Have you looked into the Pioneer DVD burner/TiVo units? These come with TiVo Basic, which does not require a service fee. You can upgrade to full TiVo service, if you want however.

I think the Pio is for cable, not satellite. I got excited for a minute, too.
