I looked at the new DirecTV hd-dvr and refuse to spend a grand on a unit that does not have signal pass through (ie stretch mode). I can't wait any longer to get an all in one or wait for Hughes to fix the problem.
What is the best DVR, without DVD record? Replay?
and DTV HD reciever- Samsung?
Would I compromise picture quality due to non-dvi connection between the two?

Zick,

If you have DirecTV, the best recorder without HDTV capability is the standard DirecTivo. You can order it for $49-$99 from DirecTV with free installation. This records the original digital bitstream from DirecTV, so all recordings are identical in quality to the live broadcast; in contrast, standalone recorders like the ReplayTV degrade the quality.

Obviously, if you want to record HDTV from DirecTV, the $899 HDTV DirecTivo is the cheapest option.

Thanks for the input. I read some of your other thread replies. Have you heard of other manufactures making a DTV HD DVR? It's almost Nov and I would think that others would be marketting for Xmas. Samsung?, LG?
