if not supported or leased by my cable provider (Cablevision)? I was going to buy an SA 8000 to get DVR but read in this forum the service works in conjunction with cable operator.

If it would work, my next question is I have a dead SA 1850 digital box provided by Cablevision. Could I put the card from the 1850 in the SA 8000 & have it work?

Thanks in advance, Fred

Short answer:
No, it won't work ... unless the DVR was originally sold / intended for your cable system.

Longer answer:
Call your cable company first and check (they'll tell you it won't work).

Why would you want to buy one? Alot less hassel renting one from the cable company. If it breaks, it's the cable company's problem and you just take it in and get another. If you own it, it's your problem.

They are available VERY cheap on eBay and a few other places ...

Since they won't work for most people ... it keeps the prices pretty low ... makes it seem like a 'bargain'.
