My ReplayTV pet peeves:
1. Doesn't support HDTV.
2. The company and system seem kind of shady... does anyone else sense this at all?
3. It keeps losing its network connection settings... like it doesn't update via DHCP so it keeps losing its program guide and not knowing when to record.
4. I have to daisy-chain the whole thing together with the IR Blaster, etc. Other people in my house come and change the channel on the cable box... completely ignoring that the ReplayTV is recording. Argh!

I was debating whether to switch to DirectTV with its TiVo HD system, but overall the Comcast HDTV DVR just seems like a better option. I'm sure that the TiVo system is nice with the "booobeep!" sounds and pretty graphics, but I really like the comfort of having everything all in one box and designed to work together. Plus, it gets its program guides automatically through a single cable. You can't beat that!

Plus, HDTV and widescreening is a huge pain in the ass... and I like that Comcast gives me a component/DVI connection to my HDTV and nothing else to worry about.

Comcast is coming on Monday. :) I'll miss the 30-second skip on the ReplayTV... but oh well.

Are you planning to sell that 5504? If so, PM me with an asking price.

Comcast NJ - Union/Verona

Good move!

Make sure you get the 6412. It comes with the i-Guide which is pretty sweet.

Why are you going to miss 30 second skip? All you have to do is program your remote and you have 30 second skip.

I just had the box installed. THE QUALITY IS AMAZING!! I had it hooked up with component video and I absolutely LOVE the HD pictures...

I was a little bummed out when the guy said that the box couldn't tell the difference between repeat and new episodes... so it would record all of them... but then I found out that it did do that via a series record... so I'm really happy about that. Plus, this box has dual tuners... which I was suprised (I didn't think those were in my area) so now I can fill the hard drive up pretty quickly.

Thanks for the info on the 30-second skip hack, markjrenna! I set mine to the Help button... haha.

MethodMachine, I am planning on selling the ReplayTV. I will be in touch.
